The Old Republic has already been shown to be not the Utopia old Ben made it out to be so it would be interesting if the future the Rebels fought for didn't turn out to be so rosy either.

That was my favourite part of re-reading Zahn a couple of years ago. It's perhaps more in the subtext, but I think the massive all controlling form of Government that the Empire was would be really hard to replace with something more "free" without total chaos coming in the wake. Now, it's certainly less sexy than a rebellion, but it takes better men (and women and aliens) to remake the new government and satisfy the needs of the recently oppressed without somehow repeating the sins of the Empire.

However, I'm not sure it makes for good movie making. :(
