how could you possibly replace Harrison Ford with a CGI model, the others maybe... please nooooooooooooo!
Once you've gotten rid of the two most evil men in the universe, Vader and the Emperor, it should end there.

Thrawn doesn't even come close! and don't even get me started on Ysalimiri !

Zahn knew Thrawn was a pussy with no powers
so he gave him some Kryptonite, how lame, it's like deflecting God with a death-metal CD.

Many people here consider Clone Wars episode 2.5, which is goofy animation at best and not a strong plot line either. Timothy Zahn's books are loved by that love star wars and are the type of stories that GL should have done in his movies. The PT is a childish travesty, the Zahn books rival even the dark and enigmatic ESB. If lucas would never do 7,8,9 live action and do it right like Zahn's stories. I most certainly would love, I mean LOVE to see Zahn's books done final fantasy style. I guarantee I would watch them far, far more than the PT.

Final Fantasy Advent Children Screens

Are you kidding, none of you would want this? I mean granted I would love a big budget live action 7,8,9 (DONE RIGHT, not like the PT), but if not I would certainly take CG animation. The PT already is largely CG, so get rid of the couple of live action characters and go for continuity, haha.

That CG work looks amazing, but I would love to see the original cast get together again. I doubt they'd do the Zahn books because Lucas would want to do an original story (I doubt he'll come up with anything half-way as decent as Zahn did though).

Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here, this is the war room!

I think the animation is incredible, no doubt. But to replace a live-action franchise with CGI? Hell no. I'd rather never have anything new from LFL ever again then put out a CGI ep 7-9. How would you explain that to the fans and the critics?

"Uhhh... well, we, uh, really wanted to do more movies, but Harrison, Mark, and Carrie shot down the idea. So, we, uh, kinda had to go the CGI route. But, don't worry! This is Lucasfilm! It's the highest quality CGI out there. You guys will love it, trust me. How can you go wrong with story and CGI ideas from the company that brought you the PT?"

'Nuff said.

Interesting theory about the concept of an all digital sequel trilogy, and one I believe we'll see, knowing Lucas' famous distain for working with live human actors.

On another note does anyone know when/if Advent Children will be coming to DVD and not just that crazy new PS2 CD movie format?

Bossk, I too would like a live action movie, but I am sick of this half CGI, half live actor...Roger Rabbittish Prequal Trilogy stuff. Just make it one or the other, I am saying and make it less childish. Animation can be dark and exciting like Ghost in the Shell, Blood, etc. Anilation done like Square did above is awesome and I would take it over a cartoon like Clone Wars, a stupid live action TV show or another poorly executed trilogy a la PT, especially if it meant it was taken out of Lucas' hands and put with the Zahn books.

Now like I said if Lucas could do Zahn or stories to that level and do 7,8,9 and do live action and lot less cartoony, slapstick, Jar-Jar crap then I am all in. Something like ESB (which Lucas didn't write, wonder why its sooo good) would be great for 7,8,9. I am there but to have crap that is live action like a TV show, the PT, or whatever I'd take Zahn meets Final Fantasy anyday. Get it out of Lucas' hands!!!!

BTW, the final fantasy is supposedly just being released on PSP clearly a strong selling point when it ships. Obviously they will release it on DVD eventually (more $$$) and obviously people will figure out how to rip it to DVD before then. As it stands that movie and the Metal Gear game are going to push a lot of units at ship time.

I agree, but you cannot take a live-action franchise and suddenly decide to make it CGI. It won't work and I guarantee it. Imagine trying that with Indiana Jones. You just can't take recognized actors who are known for these roles and sub them out with CGI. There will be severe popular backlash. CGI for aliens, while I prefer makeup, is still fine. But to sub out human actors for CGI. Nuh uh.

wow those are some nice screens...

but ya i kinda agree that it would just seem totally out of place...
its bad enough that the OT and PT dont have the same look to eachother...
if 7,8,9 were done all CG things would just make no sense...

i still doubt Lucas will ever touch the ST...

Is that face photorealistic enough?

Or how about the landscape here and camera effects of focus/out-of-focus?

I understand what you guys are saying. But again, people like the PT, people like the Clone Wars cartoon I'd take this over those anyday with a great story and it doesn't have to be Luke, Han, Leia, etc. Just set way in the future just like KOTOR was set way in the past.

oh i would take that over the Clone Wars cartoon anyday!!!!!
im sry to those of you who like it... but personally i just find that animation (even if its done on purpose) to look really crappy...
i mean to see star wars characters drawn like that is just an eye sore...

my two cents!

I love animation greatly, american and japanese, traditional and CGI(with a heavy preference on traditional, and an intolerence for slipshod hybreds). That said, Clone Wars was rather weak. If Star Wars is to be animated, leave it up to the people who are good at it, and not the creator of "The Powerpuff Girls". His "Dexter's Laboratory" is enjoyable, and "Samurai Jack" has it's moments, but I'd rather see Star Wars in the hand of Miyazaki, Oshii, Kawajiri, Studio Gainax, Production I.G. or perhaps a rehilbilitated(i.e. Eisner free) Disney. Heck, why not give Evan Cagle a shot, once "Honey" is finished. These are the animators that forge the best in animation. Though even I agree that the old characters would not work. We associate these characters with their actors, a CGI suppliment, no matter the realism would never work. I would fear that there would be more to hate than even the SE.

I know Steven Spielberg has spoken out against CGI ever being used to recreate an existing actor either living or dead , although I'm not sure if GL is of the same opinion, but I doubt you could even come close to capturing Harrison Fords performance or personality in the trilogy, the other character's possibly, but it would end up as dull and soulless as the prequal trilogy.

Interesting stuff guys. I don't think I would be happy to see the OT cast done CGI. I do crave to see more stories with the OT cast but I know that's not going to happen.

Do you remember those early PT rumors in the British press saying "Computer generated Guinness to reprise role in new Star Wars film". Ha! I would have personally smacked Lucas round the chops.

UPDATED: "Amazing special effects will allow veteran actor SIR ALEC GUINNESS to appear in the next three movies in GEORGE LUCAS' STAR WARS reprising his role as OBI-WAN KENOBI, but as a young man. Guinness, now 82, won many new fans when he appeared as the guru in the Star Wars in 1977 and its sequel the EMPIRE STRIKES BACK three years later. LUCASFILMS plan to release the three new films annually from 1998. But since they are chronologically, prequels to the original sci-fi series Hollywood's top technicians were drafted in to mastermind the special effect. Using computer imaging technology, the studio will superimpose genuine black-and-white footage of Guinness as a young man with color sequences of him as Kenobi in the earlier films. That image will be transferred to a mask worn by an actor with the same height and build as the young Guinness. Trial footage has already been filmed, with the face applied in post production, and the producers are said to be delighted."

A lot of guff, I agree. And I think they look like crap. Further reinforcing my opinion that you cannot replace the series 100% with CGI.

Well damn, something's better than nothing, it at least gives us more threads to bitch about Those pics look awesome to me, again, I'd love a live action trilogy, with the original cast, done right, but animated or not anything's got to be better than the phantom menace. Though GL does seem to be sinking to new lows lately, he may stand to make something worse still.

Okay, I'll grant you the comment about it being better than TPM. However, it is not better than "nothing". I'd prefer nothing at all.

OK Bossk, lemme examin this logic of yours...

crappy CGI episode 7 is better than TPM
nothing is better than episode 7

So ok, you rather have nothing, and if nothing isn't available, you rather have a a crappy CGI episode 7, and then TPM. Ok sounds about right, but I belive TPM is a litle bit worse than that.

No, read a little. Obi Wonton said "animated or not anything's got to be better than the phantom menace" and I agreed that just about anything is better than TPM. Then he said "Well damn, something's better than nothing" and I disagreed with that by saying that I'd prefer nothing to having a CGI episode 7-9.

By the way, if those aren't from a CG movie coming out what are those star wars pics from? A next gen video game on X-box Next, PC, or PS3? Those graphics look pretty solid that buddy x-wing posted and I know that not fan stuff, that's legit stuff whatever its for. Is the TV show of rumors, rumored to be live action or CG?

I was thinking something new for the X-Box since they always have the cool SW games.

Those appear to be video game rips, of what, I don't know. FMV's of some obscure or unreleased game. Texture mapping looks to be a little simple. So It could be an old PC game(there were some that weren't vaunted). They look to be in the 128 bit range otherwise, I know of a SW game released for the old Atari Jaguar(or was it the 3DO, one of the systems killed by the original PSX). I got to sample it long ago, and it was awesome. You're a rebel trainie, on a remote world out practicing in a canyon, when the Empire hits you base. you escape through the training ground and meet up with the rebellion. There, you are given an X-wing and sent against an attacking Star Destroyer. I remember this vividly, because at the time, every single SW game was about destroying a certain number of TIEs, while this one let me take on a SD(which was sweet). Anyone know the name of this game? All I do know, Obi-wonton, are that these are not Next-gen consoul pics, as they're barely 128 bit. Almost Dreamcast quality.

Never mind, a quick seach on www.GameFaqs.com revealed that the game I was reffering to was the original Rebel Assualt for 3DO(which seems to be better in memory than RA II).

minor correction Obi Wonton, JambeDavdar posted the links to the episode 7 pics, not me. But they do look like cut scenes from a computer game, they just look a bit bright and perfect and overtly CG for my liking, a bit like the Roughnecks starship Troopers series, I' d be happy enough to see something like this in an ongoing tv series set in the Star Wars universe, but based on entireley new stories with new characters.

I still haven't seen any of the Clone Wars series, the visual style of it put me off, they all look like powderpuff girls and Yoda looks ridiculous in it, but I'll probably get round to it before May next year.

I've been patient. But this keeps coming up. Someone bashes the Prequel Trilogy and everone accepts the opinion as fact. So it's dull and souless now. Yay. Half the reason people think the prequels suck so much is that people who's ridiculous expectations weren't met continue to say things like this about it until it is just accepted as fact. Annoying. Ok. My rant is over.

Did anyone notice that one of the pictures on the fake "Episode Seven" page had Earth in it. I wonder if that was intentional.
