Or when the USA and UK joined forces with the USSR to liberate Europe from and Asia from Fascism. That was so implausible.
My friends went on to list other comparisons, like "when the Autobots and Decepticons had to join forces to stop Unicron", when the Super Friends and Legion of Doom had to join forces to stop some evil witch, etc.
In short, it's a worn-out trope that's often employed by Saturday morning cartoons.
Other fans hate them because they were too "sci-fi" and not "sci-fantasy".
Personally, I think there's a lot of mileage left in the Sith still. All the Darth characters were great, IMHO, just underused and undeveloped in the PT. We really don't know anything about them (except for the EU) yet. Have them get rid of the silly "only two there are" rule and let them really cut loose.
