I ignore the EU, but several of my friends were really into it during before the PT came along. They hated that element of the storyline and said it reminded them of "that episode of Masters of the Universe when He-Man and Skeletor had to work together to fight a larger foe."

Well, it sort-of... was, if you recall that the USSR didn't join until Hitler broke the Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact and probably wouldn't have if he hadn't.
