What. Fucking. Ever.

When it comes to Star Wars '77, those of us in the serious restoration community lapped Lucasfilm and anything Disney could ever hope to do in terms of restoration of the original long ago.  This affects nothing.

Other than that, the prequels were shitty abortions that should have never been made.  If they manage to do a decent Star Wars film, now, I'll go see it - who wouldn't.  But good films in ANY genre are as rare as a three-legged ballerina these days, so forgive me if I'm not holding my breath.  Hey, here's some Nostradamus for you: The new Star Wars films will feature a lot of greenscreen.  Fucking yay.

Could this be a good thing for the original Star Wars?

Someone might have said this already, but we should start a new petition directed at Walt Disney Studio Chief Alan Horn, Kathleen Kennedy, and Walt Disney Co CEO Bob Iger, stat

What the what?!?

Wow. Does this mean it's time for a new petition? Would Disney actually listen? I mean, they have a pretty notorious history of their own when it comes to revision of their films...

Also, what does this mean for the preservation/fan edit community? Lucasfilm has always been quite kind by generally ignoring us & letting us carry on with our little projects... I've always heard Disney is pretty hardcore about copyright infringement. Of course, that doesn't stop them from stealing other people's work (see Kimba the Lion).

I don't know whether to be happy Lucas is finally giving up control or upset that Disney is taking over.

Very very good point. Lucas always had the virtue of being reasonable about copyright. Disney ownership is not good for us here.

The blue elephant in the room.

Definitely feeling the hate/love feeling of this announcement. It just feels so out from left field. Disney buying lucasfilm AND announcing a new star wars film??

Hmm...although with all the star trek next generation blurays I've been watching, I'd say we've gotten stuck in a wormhole where time, space and thought all become one. Shit. Reverse polarity!

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

Mind. Blown. Can't get my head wrapped around this.

In reference to the OOT being released, I have heard that Disney has already put the OT in "The Vault". Wouldn't surprise me. Build up demand for the discs again.

2015 is right around the corner.  There must be some kind of script already?  Also does this mean that the original trilogy will receive some kind of justice in a return to home video releases?

George suddenly remembered he actually did write those outlines for Episodes 6, 7, 8. Or else they've been stuck behind a drawer in his desk since 1980. ;)

it's not that hard for episode 6, since that already came out.

maybe you're thinking about  (7,8,) and 9.

The more i read about this situation the more stunned i get,who knows maybe this deal has been in negotiations for a few years and Disney has asked for the original trilogy not to be released until they have their hands on it.

This. Better get that finished up quick, Ady, even if it's not "perfect," because Disney's lawyers are absolute sharks.

I mentioned this over on another thread, but Disney never came after any of the POTC edits. so maybe it'll all be okay.....

I agree 100% on this, lets make Disney know now how much the original Star Wars 1977-1983 is wanted by the public.

I don't know how to process this. =|

Same... weird news.  Is it good or bad?  I don't know.

I do fear that Disney may be more litigious than Lucasfilm when it comes to fan edits etc.

I hoped no more Star Wars movies would ever be made.

Not sure what to think about episode VII.  I strongly believe that it would be IMPOSSIBLE for it to be worse than the prequels.

What does it mean for the OOT?

I have no idea how I'm supposed to feel about this.

Anyone remember different camera angles from ROTJ?

For us, things can't really get worse.  George said never with regard to theatrical versions and there aren't levels of never.  I'll follow this with mild interest.

That said;  Put me firmly in the camp of there will be sequels\prequels.  Disney is every bit the leviathan that LFL is.  They'll make billions from this.
