That's correct let's get back on topic, instead of reading post from people who have not seen the new Blu and just react to screengrabs.

Anyway then to sync the old audio to the new disc? I'm guessin just by changin the opening logo sound?

I've synced dark_jedi's mono track to the new Blu-ray. It was more or less a case of removing the MGM logo from the start of the track (and the end), as it's not on the new disk. I had to compressed the dynamic range a bit as well, because if you leave it unchanged from DJ's, the softer scenes (particularly at the end of the film) get clipped out when you play it in a Blu-ray player. Wish I'd known that before I burnt it to a blank BD25 :P!

I have an ac3 of it that I muxed with tsMuxer. Anyone know if it's OK to put it on Myspleen or is that against the rules over there (also if DJ's OK with it).

It's not the kind of content that's preferred on MySpleen, but I don't think anyone would object to it being there, as it's not available anywhere else (in print) and it's from a laserdisc.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Thanks for making the effort to share this, just a couple of questions:

1 - The 'clipping' on the low amplitude scenes - is this on all BD players or just the one you tried it on? Sounds like something that might vary from player to player (or even according to settings).

2 - Any particular reason why you opted to compress to AC3 rather than leave the track as PCM?

The clipping occurred both on the 2 PS3s (fat and slim) that I tried and ArcSoft Total Media Theatre 5 on my PC, so I think it must just be something inherent to Blu-ray. Can't imagine why, but the waveform itself in Audacity was so low that it was rendered as a flat line, so I suspect that was indicative of the issue.

As to compressing it, no real reason. Just an effort to keep as much video data as possible when I compressed the BDR to 25gb. I can easily reexport from Audacity to PCM again though, since I saved the project file.

I'll see about putting a PCM copy up on the Spleen.

*UPDATE*

OK it should (hopefully) be available on MySpleen now:

Thanks a lot, what's this Rob with the delay? Stendec says he already adjusted and synched it to the new logo.

I suppose you're talking about your own version of dark jedi file?

On a related point, did the theatrical screenings open with the Orion logo (the film having been acquired by MGM in later years) or was there some other distributor/studio attached at the time? Hemdale perhaps?

PCM laserdisc's specs are NOT approved for Blu-Ray. So the PCM track needs to be converted to avoid clipping. It won't alter the quality when done right.

I synced Stendec file to my own rip of my own Blu-ray, and it syncs perfectly. As mentioned above, the Blu-ray have the MGM logo in two separate files, so all you have to do is use Stendec file, and mux it with the 00000 file which is the main film starting with the Orion logo.

Thanks so much Stendec, for doing what the publisher should have done and didn't. Now I can enjoy the film in all it's mono glory, with top image definition.

Okey i got the file but i had to delay it with about 16.2 sec because of the new MGM logo in the beginning and then mux it all together. It sounds so much better with the mono now so thanks alot for sharing the file.

Yeah mine had that as well. I believe the exact offset needed was 16118 milliseconds.

How much time I have to Add in the beginning of the Monomix to sync with the Remastered BD?

I put a 16 second delay on the mono track which looks perfect to me

Or you could just cut off the new MGM logo from the video

btw Thanks STENDEC for putting the mono on myspleen

I'm pretty sure it needs to be 16118 ms if you want to be spot on. I took the DTS audio and mono mix into ripbot and aligned them so that I'd know exactly where it needed to start from.

I'm going by memory , though I'm certain it wasn't 16s exactly.

You're very welcome :D. 90% of the credit goes to dark_jedi though :P. He did all the hard work!

As to the 16 second delay, it's pretty much just an extra step that you don't really need to take since, as Stamper said, if you just mux the mono track with the 00000.m2ts file, you won't need to edit the audio at all.

If you're looking to create a new Blu-ray disk for it, my suggestion is to open the 00000.mpls (the playlist file, NOT the video file) in tsMuxer, remove any tracks you don't want, add the mono track, and mux it again as a Blu-ray disk. That way you'll cut out all the logos and extras and just be left with the film and the mono track (as well as any other tracks you left in), which you can then either shrink to a BD25 or burn to a BD50. The chapters will still be there also.

I tried the playlist method in TSMuxer but that did include the additional MGM start and end logos, with no apparent way to remove them - if you want a more purist experience the .m2ts route might be best (I can provide my list of time-adjusted chapters if anyone wants to save themselves some maths).

Thanks again for doing this STENDEC - the adjusted track fits and sounds great.

I've put together one of my vintage theatrical intros for this (in consultation with Bigrob) - if anyone's interested I'll pop it on Vimeo.

About the Colour-timing: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=198940&page=45

Thanks for posting that, I wanted to myself after checking up on this thread. I think that bit of valuable info is important to read, before making the mistake of correcting something that isn't actually wrong. Especially when the new release is the most faithful the film's ever looked, even if it's not perfect.

These two posts in particular really address the complaints and are very informative about the whole process:

Anyway, thanks to you guys for the info on syncing to the new BD and putting it together.

Hello STENDEC,

Can you please elaborate a little more on this clipping issue? How did you notice it was happening?

I ask  this because I'm really interested in 'rescuing' some LD PCM tracks I never read anything about this side effect of ripping LD audio before.

Is there any loss of quality on process you performed?

BTW, how can I get an account to download at myspleen? I haven't seen any option to do so.

Could you maybe post it at netload or sendspace?

Thanks in advance!
