"Dune" is a magnificent movie (I'm speaking of the film, of course, not of the lousy recent TV series), and I have both the original cinematic DVD R2 version of it, and the hour-longer TV cut (R4). The TV version is considerably worse (and the DVD comes in fool screen only, sadly).

AI was reedited? I'd love to see the first cut, then - just as I'd love to see the first cut of 13th Warrior, although I absolutely love the final versions of both of these films.

Other famous reedits? Hmm, "Battlefield Earth" was cut for the US release, I hear. I don't know what was cut, as I only saw the European version (and I have to say I saw many much, much worse movies in just the recent year - "Van Hell*hit", "Undercrap", "The Texas Chainbuck Remake", "Scatwoman", "Barfield", just to name a few...). "Exorcist II" was cut by John Boorman and was supposedly a bit less of a mess than the original version is. "Robocop II" was heavily cut and reedited - sadly, many excellent scenes were destroyed in the process (the Elvis skeleton scene must have been great...)

BTW, ignoring the dreadful spew of puke named "Vidocq" (a flick by the idiot who made "Scatwoman" and who, like that other idiot "McG", likes to pretend he has only one name), "Loups" is probably the worst French film I've had the displeasure to see since, uh, *ever*. It makes The 5th Element and even the horrible Taxi flicks look watchable. Hell, it makes "Le Gendarme et les extraterrestres" look like the best part of the whole Gendarme series.

"Bad Boys 2" could certainly use some editing. It's 2 1/2 hours long! I think cutting it down to a tight 2 hours of nonsense would be sufficient.

Star Trek: Nemiesis would be VASTLY improved with some re-inserted scenes and tighter editing. This has been discussed in the Off-Topic Star Trek thread.

Same thing with Daredevil; I've heard rumors of a Director's Cut on its way in light of the new "Elektra" film, so one can only hope.

T3, if only there was a way to make that movie decent. Take out all the errors like John being 13 in T2 (according to the police computer at the start of T2 when the T-100 looks at it - he's 10), Arnie calling himself a "T-101" (he's a frigging T-800... MAYBE T-850)... Sarah's death date (she was 29 in T2 "this next one is interesting a 29-year-old-female ...") ... Take out the crap like the poofter-night-club, Arnie telling John he killed him (I mean really, telling him that would make John KNOW never to trust a T-800 terminator with skin number 101 as if he would anyway, what a load of crap get rid of it). The same thing as explaining the targets the T-X is going for, after all if she does really kill important people later on they'll never become important and it will never know who to kill - just make it look like a killing machine. Remove the mention of hydrogen fuel-cells, remove the fuel cell explosion... I dunno what else I only watched the damn thing like twice. It would be one hell of a task fixing that movie I tell you!

I agree with everything you said Daniel, that movie definitely did suffer from "sucks dogs balls" syndrome. Lame as!

I have the Three DVD Collection of Brotherhood of the Wolf. It inserts previously deleted scenes from the theatrical release into the movie. My wife enjoyed the extras, but I thought it dragged out the movie even more and weren't needed. As for the discs themselves, the collection is great, and would be ideal for re-editing.

I *loved* the theatrical release.

It's kind of like the deleted scenes they added back in in the Extreme DVD version of Terminator 2. I'm glad the second disc has the theatrical cut in HD, because I wasn't impressed with most of the inserted things they put on the first disc. (Teaching the Terminator to tell a joke?!? Ummm... okay.)

I just thought of something. What if you edited "Weekend at Bernie's" and "Weekend at Bernie's 2" together into one huge Weekend at Bernie's extravaganza?

Those films are 'perfect' the way they are.

Although in all seriousness I do LOVE both films and I was really hoping they'd make a third one reuniting Jonathan Silverman, Andrew McCarthy and Terry Kiser. Silverman once joked that the premise should be that Bernie Lomax's corpse somehow gets elected President and the two of them have to continue the illusion that Bernie is still alive using putty, makeup and so on. Meanwhile a deranged assassin is trying unsuccessfully to kill President Lomax.

Obviously he was kidding, but I'd still watch it.
"The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." - Goering.

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it." - Goebbels.

"In times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act." - Orwell.

I actually find that premise incredibly appealing.

OK when it comes to Lynch's Dune, I am a huge fan. Actually I am a huge fan of Lynch's work in general.
And by far, it is 100x better than SCI-FI's mini-series, luckly Children of Dune was much better.

Anyway... as far as the Alan Smitee version, I know most die hards hate this version, but I actually
like the opening it has with the paintings and the backstory, over the Princess Urlan (Virginia 'I hope doing the opening makes me a huge star cause I have no real other scenes' Madsen) opening. But I do agree the
over dub narriation is just bad. Also I do like the added footage, like the baby worm/water of life scene.

I would love to personally have a copy of it (hint, hint, Rikter, myspleen.com, nudge, nudge).

As far as Brotherhood of the Wolf.... Hated it, thought it was awful.

AI, while Jude Law is a cool actor, and the movie is beautiful visually, I hated it the first time, when I was 10 and it was called Pinochio.

Oh, And Weekend at Bernie's, is a laugh riot! LOMAX FOR PRESIDENT! (sure as hell would be better than that stiff
we have in office now )

LOL

Why not... Weekend at Bernie's 3? The dead guy gets a girlfriend (a dead woman). They get married (in a revolting, discusting, yet funny scene). You can't go wrong in a comedy if you have necrophilia on it!

I never got to see any of the Phantom Edit's version. Anybody have them they wouldn't mind sharing? Thanks a bunch.
