Much to Jerry Goldsmith's chagrin the Alien soundtrack has a lot of his work from Freud on it.

This leaves us with a bit of unused Alien music from the master but at the risk of angering his ghost further some of his other scores have some evocative passages in them.

Damnation Alley for one is very Alien at times.

Finally had time to check out the hour long clip. There's some great editing here.

there are also a few things that make the edit feel a bit rough around the edges, things that should hopefully be a simple fix - changes in aspect ratio - music that swells and quickly fades during the end of the alternate Shaw / Holloway scene - faint noise during the opening logos..

Feels a bit weird to get the start of the opening titles but then no movie title or further titles.

The extended Weyland speech is much better, some parts could probably still be trimmed to get to the point sooner..

Maybe you could rip out the Weyland promo audio from the cargo scene for the logo at the end of the speech - the "Building better worlds" speech?

I'd trim out some of the transmission footage and keep it all together in a single segment.

The edit to the Lawrence Arabia scene works really well with David finishing the line.

Still not too keen on the 'quiet eye' sequence for a dream sequence - at least the visuals - especially with Yutani logos plastered all over it.

Thank you for cutting out Fifield being a jackass during breakfast.

As I've mentioned i'm no fan of the briefing scene.

The scene between Vickers and the others in the lifepod should probably be right before they suit up - Shaw also comes across as a bit of a bitch in the scene..

Any chance of removing Fifield howling like a wolf? He and Milburn definitely need some editing to seem more credible and less like asshats.

Milburn's 'we found life' scene is cheesy but I like it - as well as Fifield making fun of him without seeming like a total asshole.

The alien3 music while they are in the tunnels fits really well.

I feel like the alternate version of the Shaw / Holloway scene [used here] works much better.

I like the shed skin scene.

I'd get rid of the eye worm and make Holloway just seem hungover.

Do you have any word on when the next hour will be up?  In general I like a lot what you have done with this.

Woah, Ive realized ive made a lot of changes that youve posted Johnny Ringo! Expecially removing the closeup of holloway's eye, the howling, and trimming/moving the transmission promo.

as for the quiet eye promo, I still dont like the theatrical dream sequence, that and the isle of skye intro for her paint her as a main character; when she actually does very little in the film. plus both give is blunt exposition we will find out later (in blunt expostion form nonetheless "these glyphs all have something in common"/"will it bring your father back?")

Shes more of a catalyst, and her introductions now are her "hopeful hello" in transmission, and the quiet eye promo, both point her her as an ambitious person whos on an even more ambitious journey, And add more character towards her. The Yutani logo and visual gibberish in quiet eye paint this scene as:

A: David is looking into Shaws dreams, with yutani technology, analyzing her recurring dream (due to multiple phone calls similar in nature) of the events prior to launch.

or...

B: David is looking not into her dream, but the application in waylands file on her, as he wouldhave done with everyone else on the ship, with, you guessed it, yutani technology. Making the reveal of David looking into more things like dreams EVEN creepier when its brought up.

I am a cheap bastard and running out of space on my drop box. I may start up a new account to upload the new files.

I will most likely replace the opening 12 minute clip, with a newer opening 20, and replace the opening hour with 2 45 minute ish clips from the middle and end. I like how the ending is coming together, but it still is unsatisfying.

case in point: this film feels like 2/3's of a film still. And that cant be fixed in editing really. But i am impressing myself in how its coming together and am excited to not have to watch prometheus in detail ever again.

This is what I do, besides fanediting.

You could always just give people a deadline to check out the older clips and then delete them. Making space for more recent versions..

sounds good. I prefer shorter clips, easier to manage.

are these transmission clips from the Bluray? - I've only seen some of them on Youtube. I'll be getting the bluray but not until tomorrow at the earliest.

is anybody else distracted by the fact that Shaw has a different hairstyle every time we see her?

It would make more sense (or rather sense) if the quiet eye was Weyland's dream.

When you make a phone call you don't usually listen to yourself.

Weyland could have intercepted the Yutani interception of the call.

Alternatively Vickers is another sensible candidate for that dream as implies that she is a Yutani stooge and is one of the reasons behind the eventual merger.

Having it as Shaw's dream makes no sense at all.

She would see the camera, not the resulting phone call.

From that train of logic, why do we see young shaw with her father in shaw's theatrical dream?

Personally, I've always viewed it as a file David's looking up

I've started digging through the Blurays and it looks like there's some stuff that might be useful, some Weyland corporate / promo type stuff as well aliens talking - including footage of the old engineer talking that isn't in the extended version of the scene. there may also be an explanation of what exactly the engineer says to David.I'll need to watch it again. there's also a bunch of doco's I haven't looked at yet. (sorry if the fomatting looks screwy, i'm posting from a mobile device).

I've been getting swamped with other work, and it looks to continue until the end of the month. I may push the deadline back a few weeks, to not have all of you watch something 90% done in my eyes.

Indeed.

That said I do dream in the third person but I never dreamt of being on the receiving end of a conventional telephone call I've made (weird phone calls where I'm telling myself I'm in the bedroom with my sleeping self holding my John Thomas in one hand and armed with a pair of scissors, well everyone has had that dream...right?).

To beat the dream sequence horse a bit more - The bluray documentaries have a wealth of cool bits and pieces that might be of use - including some parts of the quiet eye vid - clean of 'yutani'...I haven't looked at everything yet.

The real problem that I can't see a solution to is there is no satisfying ending to the the film and nothing much to contrive one from either unless you guys know better.

One thing that did spring to mind last night was not having Vickers squashed by the ship.

Have Shaw run from the tumbling ship and survive.

Have the extended battle with the engineer and squid thing.

We could still have David and Shaw leaving the planet but Vickers could be stranded on the planet, emerge from her pod and head to towards the lifeboat with the dead engineer in it.

Only for the Deacon to emerge.

We don't see that encounter but we know it's not going to be nice.

Author

Ohh I like that Idea a lot, Bingowings! I have yet to tackle anything from david's head being ripped off, to shaw going to the lifeboat. I dont want to lose any of the tension by cutting vickers' running away from the ship. Also, from the getgo, I wanted my edit to be deacon-less, with all of the other easter egg's and referances, throwing that in there feels like the biggest cock-tease for a sequel.... let alone I can run around the "how's and why's" of it's existance, by simply removing it.

Ill change around a few things, cut a bit.

Sorry for having no updates this past week, ive been working along, having made about the 20th incarnation of the first 20 minutes, but it keeps getting tighter, and ill throw it up in the dropbox in a lower quality (gotta save space) to replace the existing file.

BUT I HAVE A CUT OF THE LAST 17 MINUTES.
(not final, but almost... I noticed one bad effects shot on headless david... two really, but I dont mind the prosthetic head in a bag... it reminds me of the ian holm/ash head prosthetic)

which ill throw up the link... tonight/tomorrow morning.

This is what I do, besides fanediting.

i'd love to see both the newer beginning and the ending you've got so far. lower quality is fine as long as people can make out what is going on.The scene of the Deacon birth feels really awkward and there's really no reason for it in the story - he's now alone on a planet we'll probably never see again. Regarding Vickers...when Shaw is trying to get away from the falling ship it crashes down on her and then in we have her suit saying something like 'you have 2 minutes of air left' - maybe some of that stuff could be re-tooled to imply that Vickers was merely trapped? I'd much rather see Vickers survive than Shaw. I've had a bit of an idea for the dream sequence that might work for everyone but not sure, i need to check out a few things first.

Okay....I just wanted to say...I have not seen this movie yet...but I am really excited to see this project alongside the BR release.  I do not have much to offer in the way of bandwidth or other resources but I'd really like to find my way to the finished project, when complete.

Would anyone consider sending out disc copies once they get theirs?  It would mean so very much to me if I could find a generous soul that could make it happen.

Thanks for all the time and hard work that is going in to this to make it something special for the fans.

Cheers,

Shawn

Haven't looked at the medpod scene properly yet but had a look at the rough ending - it's still quite a mess.

A big issue with including the deleted / alternate scenes at the end there is that there are a lot of incomplete visual effects - composites of David's head / shaw in a harness / CG scarring missing from the Engineer...

- you might be able to hide a lot of this by darkening footage on these two sets [life pod / juggernaut control room]

it might be difficult but more interesting to only show the Engineer [in the life pod] in the dark / from a distance / only show his legs while the focus is on Shaw hiding...

- the colour grading also varies between shots.

Personally, i wouldn't spend so much time showing the demise of the Engineer when we wont see him again.

another big problem is it paints Shaw as a main character which is something you've been trying to avoid.

IMO, this absolutely has to go -

DAVID - ...He's coming for you!

SHAW - Who...Who's coming?

???

Who else could it possibly be?

The focus should be on David trying to manipulate Shaw into helping him leave the planet.

David - Does it matter why they changed their minds?

Shaw - Yes. Yes it does

David - Why?

Shaw - because Fuck you that's why!

I also really don't like the alternate version of Shaw stuffing David's head into the bag - it really feels like an outtake.

I did have a similar idea about moving the opening sequence to the end but it kinda feels weird - music is good though! - Unless you could imply that what we are seeing is the place that Shaw and David are intending to go to..

maybe a dramatic pullback to reveal an unfamiliar galaxy? or two suns in the sky or something..

MMMuuuchhh better! Why didn't this stuff make it into the movie?

The solution to the "Shaw's cut to pieces and nobody cares." problem.

Great to have more backstory on the Captiain.

Shaw v Engineer works well this way. Great tension. The "Oxygen is good" was a little quick, imo, and could use a hiss. Maybe some sounds to attract Shaw back towards the squid ;/

       Terrific work!
