What "offical" hints are you talking about?

Nothing earth shattering at all. I just pick up little things here and there from the official site. In 2007 we will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Star Wars. GL said that he may compile a special box set DVD of the original three films (SE, or OT??? Who knows?) on the new format DVD (16 hours of info.) He mentioned blue screen work, special features, etc... Lots of other tiny inuendo's within articles as well.

Like I said, nothing mind blowing, or definitive... perhaps I should've said "Little instances from the official site that give us hope," rather than "Official hints." I didn't mean to sound like I found some secret info... I didn't. I just meant to say that I look at his press releases and quotes with a positive attitude, and sometimes come out with a bit of hope that he will release them eventually.

But I really think that these boards should be a little more pro-GL. I mean think about it; If everyone was trashing me because they wanted something from me, would I give it to them? Probably not. We need some positive insight here, patience, and a little hope.

Peace!

I know what you mean... sometimes it can get a bit out of hand on here.... but i think its just a way of venting our frustrations...

especially when we hear what he has been changing in the new 2004 edition yet he continues to not release the OT...
I know i bash GL quite a bit on here, and i can admit its purely out of frustration for his attitude towards his fans...

It doesnt seem like he respects us anymore...
after all we are simply asking for him to release his original work... and he's pretty much flipping us the bird....
i think i just feel disrespected after supporting all of his versions of SW over the years and dont see why i should give him respect in return...

you see what i mean?

I completely agree, Luke. He's responsible for creating this massive universe we've all come to love unabashedly, and yet now, after all the success we've helped to give him, he is basically telling us that that universe that we grew up with is not the exact same universe he has in mind. It's frustrating, and it makes it quite easy to bash GL. What can we do?

Hey all, newbie checking in.

I found another nice Lucas quote that I though would go well here -

"I am very concerned about our national heritage, and I am very concerned that the films that I watched when I was young and the films that I watched throughout my life are preserved, so that my children can see them,"

The guy must have a real short memory.

Oh brother! He just keeps putting his foot in his mouth doesn't he?

Why should I be "pro-GL" when I have no respect for the man whatsoever? I can understand why people bash him out of anger and frustration, like Luke pointed out, by that isn't the case with me. I don't hate or resent GL, I just think he's lost his mind and any creative talent he ever once had. Sorry, but I just can't allow myself to support him.

I'm really starting to despair of ever seeing these films in their classic glory again...the bootlegs are very well-done, but are very limited, out of sheer necessity. No one with any sway whatsoever has taken up our cause, and we seem to be a small fragment of the Star Wars community that is considered completely crazy. Lucas is a crazy hypocrite, and because of that, I'm starting to fear our cause is lost, especially since Criterion doesn't seem to be interested. Sorry, but I had to voice my despair.

I don't think its so much that Criterion isn't interested. If Fox/Lucas won't grant them permission, they can't do much about it.

I just wish they'd tell us if they're going after the movies or not, if you understand what I'm getting at. I know they can't do anything without going through Lucas and Fox, but I'd like to be able to commend them for trying all the same.

Galahd, don't get too discouraged. I have a feeling that once the new DVDs are out, there might be a bit of a back lash because the films aren't the original versions. At least that is what I'm hoping for. Then again, I'm also hoping for an official release of the Holiday Special.

i've been starting to think the exact same thing as Galahad...
i mean i love this site and everyone on these boards i consider my friend...
but when do we call it quits?

i mean we have been around for over a year now and it seems like everyone who had once rallied behind us (digital bits, DVD File) seem to be bending over for Lucas.

i feel like we're soldiers running into battle, and these big websites being our tanks, are beginning to retreat when we cross into enemy lines...
(thats the only way i can explain it)

should we start to run too?

Forward! Not one step back!

Seriously, if you leave the board I will shoot you ala an NKVD officer.

lol
im never gonna leave the boards..
that would just make jimbo too happy!

but i just feel like everything that we're doing is going un-noticed.... by everyone!!!
i mean lets take a step back and say this isnt even about SW...
this film is history whether you like it or not...
and they're are people out there who love Lucas so much that they're missing the whole point...

like shit are people so blind to what he's trying to do...
THEY SHOULD BE TAKING A STAND!!!
cuz one day when the government is telling us what to listen to on the radio and telling us what to watch on the television and people like Lucas are trying to tell us what version of movie we should be watching... they're gonna turn to our last outlet of free speech......

the internet...
people laugh at this... sometimes i dont blame them... but you watch... mark my words... one day... they'll do it!

see what sitting at a local coffee shop and debating life does to you at night.. lol
i may regret this tomorrow..

hehe

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like I do, Luke...there's no way I would want to leave the boards, because I've become attached to posting here in a largely unstifled atmosphere, but I can't shake the ever looming notion that the cause of this site is becoming more lost by the day. I honestly feel like our whole crusade is for film preservation, and yet I have yet to hear of any film preservationists coming out and protesting alongside us. I don't despise these new cuts necessarily, because they are still Star Wars, but I'm not going to blindly ignore the raping of classic cinema. Lucas can 'rape my childhood' all he wants, but tampering with the memory of artistic milestones is unforgiveable. I have my original bootlegs, and I love them, but I'm contemplating buying the new versions, because of the enchanced sound and picture quality, the documentary, and the fact that, as a paying customer, I might have more sway when I voice my displeasure. But with Lucasfilm's poor treatment of customers and fans, who knows if that sway will mean anything?

So, while I may be despairing, like Luke, I'm definitely not leaving the boards. Besides, I still need to rack up over a thousand posts.
