Safety not guaranteed. 2 Balls. I had high hopes and it starts out interesting but kinda falls apart towards the end.

The Avengers.  Decent flick and  certainly worth watching at least once.

Good script and direction for this type of film.  Way way overhyped.

I was interested in this. Is it worth a rental?

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Goldfinger (1964) 10/10 - Classic Bond. My second favorite. In fact, the only other Bond I've even contemplated as possibly my favorite. But it's not. But it is classic. There's so much I could say, but I feel like everything's been said already. Great villain, great score, great Bond girl, great car, great action. It's just so classic! There's not much else to say. The movie's awesome. Unfortunately (or fortunately), it set the comic-book-y trend for the rest of the series. I mean, there's a lot in this movie that's ridiculous. But that's okay. What's not okay is some of the ridiculous stuff in the later movies. And while I love every Bond movie, and their cheesy tones, I can't help but wonder if the world would be a better place if the rest of the Bond films were more like FRWL. After this, Bond wasn't a spy anymore. Seriously, why would a British agent be in charge of stopping a guy steal gold from Fort Knox (this is a rhetorical question, I know they explain why in the film). After this, Bond was a superhero. But, whatever. This movie's still amazing.

Hard to say. When I'm disappointed with a movie's ending, it kinda sours the whole experience for me. But then it might not disappoint you.

Glad to see that I'm not alone in my appreciation of Dalton's Bond. Seems like he gets a bad rap, and I assume that's because of the multitude of silliness before him (though I do love Roger Moore's work as well), and of course Connery's unimpeachable King Bond.

Also, as far as Safety Not Guaranteed is concerned... I can't believe they made a movie about that. I remember seeing that for the first time on YTMND (WARNING: YTMND is a flash site that will play audio automatically and it might be loud so be careful) like a decade ago. Those were the days...

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

Fantastic.  I figured I'd find it entertaining. If anything, just for the historical significance.  However, I had no idea I'd dig it as much as I did.  It's the true story of a joint Canadian\American operation during the Iranian Hostage Crisis in 1980, when I was 18 years old.

It's weird to see a film discussing important historical events that took place when I was old enough to remember them vividly and care about them.  The fact that it was happening when I was a high school senior made for some very timely Social Studies and History discussions. For my generation, the Iranian Hostage Crisis was a very big deal.

It was weird to revisit that time via film.  A time that is still very clear in my memory. To try to put it in perspective for the 20-somethings on the board;  It would be what it may be like for your generation 30 years from now when there is a film about The Arab Spring.

It's very topical now, so you'll remember it very well  when you're 50 years old - while there will be 20-year-olds in your audience that will be thinking "man, that must have been a big deal at the time".

Anyway, the film is expertly handled and very interesting.  Fantastic cast, acting, and depth.  I'll buy this when it's released.

An easy 6 out of 6 passports.

I can't wait to see ARGO. I think it's already out here, I just need to make the time to see it. A good review from Anchorheard gives me high hopes.

REC3 : Genesis (2012), what's the next one going to be called REC4 : Dire Straits ?

Like the previous film it's set inside the same time frame as the first film, like the second film the tone is more comedic than the original and it's nowhere near as much of a white knuckle ride but it's surprisingly effective considering how well trodden this cinematic path is.

In a break from tradition it loses the found footage model of the previous two films which is sort of a shame.

I know shaky cam films have been done to death but the setting, a wedding, really lends itself to multiple video sources (camcorders, mobile phones, still photographs). Who is making the framing DVD I may ask?

On the minus side the potential for a larger cast never really gets realised and the demons are a little too much like Romero zombies most of the time (there should have been a bit more kinetic buzz to them).

And they have a really crap weakness this time around.

Still worth watching 3 somethings borrowed.

Against all of my better judgement, I picked up Battleship as my free RedBox rental last week (and then kept it two nights... d'oh!).  I have to say, in a year full of disappointment (I'm looking at you Poormetheus (I just came up with that!) and Drek Night Rises (they can't all be winners)) that my low expectations were shattered and I quite liked this movie.

Yes, I'm talking about Battleship, the one based on the boardgame.

Is it smart?  No.  Is it goofy?  Yes.  Does it have plot holes galore?  Probably.  Do you want to spend any time thinking about those in a movie full of fun?  I don't know, but none of that stuff bothered me the least.  Again, this could go back to having such low expectations that they couldn't not be met (so don't let me raise them) but the whole last hour of the movie had me grinning from ear-to-ear at the awesomeness of it.

So, for your low expectationed consideration, I present:

BATTLESHIP!

(or in the words of Mz. Black: Fun, fun, fun.)

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

"Yeah, well, George says a lot of things..." a young 1997 xhonzi on RASSM

"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.

Wow!  We are separate spectrums when it comes to The Dark Knight Rises vs. Battleship.  Perhaps you're right, it may be low expectations.  My personal theory however, is that you have a crush on John Carter of Mars ;)

I've always been a Simpsons buff. Frink isn't the only one, you now, nor is he somehow "special" cause he's named after the professor...  ;)

Thunderball (1965) 8/10 - I haven't seen this one in awhile. It's never been a favorite of mine, though, at least of the Connery Bonds. It's rather unbalanced, narratively. It's slow to start, and quick to end. Bond does absolutely nothing in the first twenty minutes - all of his scenes therein are dumb, partly because it takes forever for the plot to present itself. And, as for the end, the credits roll, what feels like, twenty seconds after the climax. The film also is lacking in the henchman department, unfortunately (unless you count Vargas, whose death brings upon one of my favorite Bond one-liners). But the movie's still cool. As with any Connery Bond the film's got some serious style. The score's great, the girls are great, and the action is great. I like that we get to see Bond do more spying than usual here. Also worth noting is the freaking awesome underwater battle, and Largo's plot, which is quite possibly the most classic of any Bond film.

Unfortunately, for me, my brother borrowed my copy of You Only Live Twice, so I don't know if I'll be able to watch that, which is a shame because that's definitely one of my top Bonds.

Watched Looper finally.

Good film, but was a bit disappointed. I had heard so many "woah, this film is amazing" hype that I was really expecting something a bit deeper or more interesting, either intellectually or emotionally. The first half was really good though and set up a great premise, and in the second half it was nice to see Bruce Willis covered in blood mowing down scores of henchmen with two machine guns, a direction I didn't think the film would go to. All the actors are good and it's well directed, but the set up seemed to have grander implications than just a bunch of people running around a farm with shotguns in the end. It does make for some decent post-movie discussion, so that's a good sign. I think I was just expecting something more than being mildly above average. But enjoyable nonetheless.

Saw Argo and Looper. Both were fantastic. Too lazy to type thoughts.
