Info: cleaning up dirty frames for scenes — Page 4

Not as easy as that - it is really tough to fix the emulsion lines like that... The green is the film emulsion showing through a scratch - even if you overlayed a frame like you said, you would lose image quality.

Ya but in this particular case it's just a little white line going over a black backround, so resolution wouldn't matter THAT much in this particular case.

It wouldn't be too difficult to just lay a completely scratch free scene in the background, I suppose. Maybe it is just because I run film a lot, but scratches and dust specks don't bother me that much.

Ya the scratches and such don't bug me so much, it's really the lines that persist that kinda bug me.

Now if it's anywhere else in the film that's probably alright, but I feel the intro deserves a little extra attention since it's the starting point. (and it happens to be easier to clean than most of the movie)

I suppose that's a valid point. :)

I just looked at the title crawl and I did notice a "line" running trough the frame at times.
Now normally I wouldn't mention it cause it's a hard to fix problem, but in this case I think it's an easy fix.

Basicly you take a frame where the line isn't present, and you use that to fill in the lines (it'll stil go over the letters a little bit, but it'll be much less noticable.)

Thoughts?

are you talking about this cleaned up crawl?

https://vimeo.com/49158310

if so, all major noticeable lines and scratches will be gone

in the final version...

not a hard thing to fix at all..

yeah, i know it's tough talking about perceived issues

from second hand video, and rough drafts. but i'm confident

when we get to our internal test workprint versions, they will have

be watched by at least 3 different people to check for those

kind of things.. way before it gets released..

Yes, that is in fact the video I was talking about. (I figured this particular issue would be more at home in this thread.)

Good to know that it'll receive even more cleanup.

By this point my excitement's gonna kill me before it comes out :D

Hmmm... the password isn't working.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Any updates yet?

tried it again today.

it locked up when the file is converting.

and i couldn't delete it either.

i think i'm just going to convert it to another

format, which means less resolution and

some downgrade in the picture quality.

well, it will have to do for now. so at least

you can watch it. i didn't use to have problems

with vimeo.

has anyone tried uploading 1080p clips there before?

the reason i switched away from youtube was

they were deleting star wars clips. vimeo works

ok for SD video. i don't want to get a PRO account,

i just have a free one.

Guess it doesn't have to be 1080p, 720p is pretty indicative of things. (I don't even have a 1080p monitor tbh >_>;)

Those clips despite being dirty and faded look wonderful. ... How are you compensating for the red shift?

You had it first right that this is "faded" but "red shift" is a misnomer here. The three colors that make up the film image haven't been shifted -- they are all still there, only not in their original strengths. The faded colors have been reduced in contrast, but not all at the same level, which gives the red effect. If we expand those individual color contrasts back to where they came from, the original picture is suddenly "restored" (as in this quick-fix comparison):

I go into more detail at "THX 1138 preservations (Italian Cut available, see 1st post)":

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/THX-1138-preservations-Italian-Cut-available-see-1st-post/post/585922/#TopicPost585922

So this red print "may yet be of some use to us" ...
