Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released) — Page 271

I don't see why it should get him banned, Adywan's been openly campaigning for donations for years and no one ever got banned - and that's fine too.

But no, at this point it's about me being busy with my postgraduate program, so a donation wouldn't help speed things up in any significant manner.

This brings back memories of when Rikter was selling copies of different fan LD transfers for money some time back.  At the time, no-one was making complaints, of course things changed.

Donating time and resources to help with projects help everyone....making money on said projects hurts everyone.

I have offered donations of discs and such in the past.  I've offered my time and assistance when acquiring some of the DTS discs we now have available for current and future projects that want to include audio alternatives for preservation.  I could not ask anyone to ever pay for my time and effort in this community.  WITHOUT donated teamwork, none of us would have what we have now.

A while ago I thought you could maybe make a kickstarter project out of the Despecialized editions in order to buy a newer computer. But now I realized it might be illegal. :p

Please bear with me if I tend to get too excited about anything or say too much, I have issues.

Maybe, but keep in mind that Hollywood doesn't own Harmy's country.

Yeah but there are copyright laws here too and all the major studios have their side operations here, so they could easily own my ass. Like the Czech guy who filmed the Simpsons Movie in a cinema here and put it on the internet. They locked him up. So please be careful with these kinds of things.

Ah, I didn't realize that. Thanks for the clarification.

I didn't (and don't) plan on doing anything that would require me to be careful, so don't worry about me!

I was gonna give out free, unlabeled copies at Comic Con yesterday, but then noticed their stance on bootlegs and decided it wasn't worth risking getting booted from the con

With the impending release of this despecialized 2.1 edition Blu-ray upon us on the horizon, where does SW look like it will go from here as far as how this restoration process is now classified? Would this be considered the definitive outcome of all the time put into this or is there still work to be done with any existing imperfections/compromises preventing what would otherwise recognize Harmy's achievement in preserving the original SW?

I wonder if you could just leave a pile of them somewhere... :)

Would people "steal" something at Comic Con?

I'd bet hanging around the Star Wars fans in the hotel bar would probably have led to some quiet hand outs.....  :)

hey guys,

I have gotten onto myspleen but nothing is coming down the torrent for any of the star wars stuff. I have tried some others that seem to have worked. Is there a problem with it just now?

I think I already said this but here goes:

The BD release will be definitive for this version. It is possible that if (or rather when) some better sources of the original appear, there may be another version sometime way down the line, starting from scratch in 1080p.

nope, no problem. learn how to open your ports (note that this is likely impossible at work or at universities); this will enable you to connect to more users (specifically, the ones who DON'T have their ports open). If you use bittorrent without issue other than on the spleen, then you know that your ISP is not shaping BT traffic. That's about all I could tell you

Before the I Dl'ed the SW MKV I had never really used torrents either.

I DL'ed BitTorrent and absolutely nothing I did could get it to work... opening ports, messing with the firewall, nothing. It just wouldn't "start." I DL'ed uTorrent and it worked immediately, which is bizarre because I guess they're made by the same people and are nearly the same. Anyway, it's worth a try.

Good to hear man. I don't know anything about torrents either but good to hear it worked for you too. I can't imagine why it works, but it seems to.

Regarding the menu; I dont like the idea of being reminded that the special edition exists every time I go to watch Star Wars.

With respect to and knowledge of what Harmy has done for us and removed, I would prefer to pretend I was just watching the film because its something I love, not watching it because its not something I hate.

That said I think education and credit to Harmy are still important.May I suggest either an auto play with a menu that pops up after the feature Or a menu at the start with a more generic STAR WARS theme with PLAY, OPTIONS, DESPECIALIZED selections?

Not saying you dont have the right to make sure everyone knows its Despecialzed 2.0 but being reminded of that first thing every time and, if I am showing it to a group, having to discuss with to people before they enjoy the film (instead of after) might slightly lessen my enjoyment of the experience.

But then that does come off as a bit ungrateful since none of us would have this option if it werent for you and this project! So I will just take it and love it either way but I wanted to offer that perspective to you.

Also I realize I could probably separate the menus from the feature somehow? but to a not tech savvy person like myself, that seems fraught with potential failure on many levels.

I agree, but I don't think Harmy was planning on this replacing the menu (were you, Harmy?). I thought the plan for the menu was the animated film poster...

it is nitpicky,

but what else are you going to do? rename it to something

that isn't despecialized also? and pretend that it's the real

star wars too?

the point is, IT DOES EXIST because of the special edition versions.

why should that lessen your experience.

why don't you just create your own menus that just say star wars,

and add them in. if you can figure out how to burn them, you can

figure out how to create a menu. it's not that hard, pretty much

every program out there like nero, etc has built in templates for

beginners.

if you're going to go through the trouble of complaining and

giving recommendations, you could at least learn how to make

your own menus, so that other people WHO don't mind what

we're going to get can enjoy those instead.

Anti-virus has nothing to do with networking, i.e. ports or apps being blocked from Internet access etc. It is purely filesystem scanning.

However, if you're using a security suite of sorts, then the firewall portion could likely be an issue.

Don't mix anti-virus with firewalls, two very different things.

uTorrent by default uses UPnP not requiring manual config of specific ports like other BitTorrent clients.
