Most obvious answer is a gun...which means that's not it.
Man, some of these are really tricky or are very open. It could be a sign that says, "Hey Mister, you left your keys at the office and your wife's been wondering where you are for over an hour." I dunno.
It's the "masked" part that baffles me. These kind of riddles require out of the box thinking.
This is one I read in a magazine years ago:
A man is slowly dragging himself on the road. He has a thimble in his hand. Suddenly he lifts his head, looks up and realizes where he is: in front of an hotel. Defeated, he shouts "I'm ruined!!" and collapses on the ground.
Explain what just happened.
