Absolutely, but you can do so much more. Go to the streets and spread the truth there. And, if possible, stay there :P

I think the newcomers here will get the idea with or without you.

I'm still taking a stand that the OOT is more than just three movies, and that something so monumental shouldn't be taken away like that. Newcomers think they are just movies, and Lucas treats them like they are less than movies.

And here i was browsing the pristine shiny new BD's in the store and i remembered that the real star wars  trilogy 1977-1983 was nowhere to be found and it all came back to me just how much Luca$h sucks.

Spielberg also stinks to recoloring raiders to look like a cartoon with blown out colors, but i think that is a separate yet strangely connected subject since it is also a Lucasfilm and we cannot get a Lucasfilm on BD untoyed with unless its temple of doom or last crusade as some claim they did not screw with those.

Wait, wait, wait, what's wrong with the Raiders BR? What've I missed?

The way I got it, the Raiders blu-ray was re-colored to look like the original? Though Temple of doom and The last crusade were horribly oversharpened. At least that's what I've seen from screencaps from the raw blu-rays. I don't know if I want to support the oversharpening and all that by buying them.

Not much, but there was fiddling.  The whole opening sequence was brightened and it did indeed "blow out" some bits here and there (the sky, for example).  Not exactly terrible, except for the knowledge that it was a totally unnecessary change.  Also the snake reflection (for Indy) is still removed, but other snake reflections (for Marion) are still there, so it's not the theatrical version a lot of people had hoped for.

Also there's some contention that the whole film now has a slight "golden" cast (and I agree with this).  However, this golden cast is preferable to the weird bluish casts of previous home video releases, so it's still an improvement.  Also, the sound is a surround upmix rather than the original, but I think it's a good surround upmix.

"Wrong" depends greatly on your point of view ;)  It's been unnecessarily tinkered with, certainly, but it still looks and sounds good IMO, and taken as a whole it's better than all previous releases including HDTV (although HDTV may have a better opening sequence).

IMO, the Raiders BD criticisms have all been over-blown, and from what I understand the new warm tone is much more accurate than the last dvd set.

Robert Harris posted on a message board recently after seeing it for the first time that he was "thrilled by the quality -- both visually and aurally."  He described the transfer as a "beautifully rendered digital capture, with beautiful grain."

If we had an OT release as high quality as Raiders, we would all be celebrating.

“In the future it will become even easier for old negatives to become lost and be “replaced” by new altered negatives. This would be a great loss to our society. Our cultural history must not be allowed to be rewritten.” - George Lucas

It's an expectations thing.  A lot of people were upset by the removal of the snake reflection back in the day, heard that Spielberg made some mea culpa statements that altering his films was a mistake, saw that E.T. got changed back to the way it was for its Blu-ray, and assumed Raiders would get changed back to the way it was on its Blu-ray too.  These people will be disappointed--and the other changes, albeit minor, are just salt in the wound that Spielberg did not, in fact, learn from his E.T. fiasco what they thought he should learn.

However, I'd say most people including me think that while theatrical fidelity is always best, there is such thing as good enough--and this Blu-ray is more than good enough, it's very good.  Just, you know, not exactly what you saw or heard in the theatres ;)

I agree, if the OT got this kind of treatment, there would be dancing in the streets.  But I don't think the complainers are unreasonable, they just had different expectations going in.

I hope they re-arrange their strategy and give it another go.  This would be a way to unify the film restoration and archival community.

As for this thread, I am really sad to see that it went kinda south.  Shame really as I thought this was a solid article about something that would be beneficial to everyone.  Not that I'm surprised by what was said and who said it but still....it soiled a legitimate topic quite quickly.

Indy Blu-ray here.

Now please get back on-topic.

One day we will have properly restored versions of the Original Unaltered Trilogy (OUT); or 1977, 1980, 1983 Theatrical released versions (Like 4K77,4K80 and 4K83); including Prequels. So that future generations can enjoy these historic films that changed cinema forever.

they need to be funded by an archive or private industry.

there's not enough interest from the public for the obscure

stuff they are going to be working on.

they need a lot better public relations and advertising too.

putting up more video clips, and explaining or showing the

actual machine would have helped, according to the comments.
