I look forward to a correctly color-timed film with LD audio.  I'm sure an MKV will show up one of these days....

Sample with correct color timing here using the new remastered blu, looks incredible!

Looks fantastic. I knew people here had their eyes on this. A color corrected version with the original mono track would be definitive in my book. Looking forward to it.

am at a loss with the audio I think the experts here need to chime in.

You will need to hand sync each and every shot. No way around it. Do you know how many edits were needed to fix SUSPIRIA? You know the fixed audio version I am talking about. There were hundreds. Non-stop, painstaking work.

I imagine this will be no different.

I was hoping that was not the answer :( may the long road begin

First encode, not 100% happy yet

Wow! That already looks so much better! It's really a shame about this colour timing business (and the mono audio track). Why can't they just leave films as they were?! If they're going to go to all the trouble of restoring and preserving them, why screw with the colour timing?? To make the uninformed think it looks better?

Anyway, good luck with this! My copy of the blu just shipped out from Amazon UK the other day, so hopefully I'll be able to fix the thing by the time it arrives :P.

Are you using something like ColourLike in AviSynth to do this?

Edit: Nevermind. I didn't read back far enough.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Am I missing the public link to the LD LPCM audio, or is it a PM sort of thing?

PM. Look up in the thread to find 'em :-)

Thanks. I've got it now and successfully synchronised it to the BD last night.

Wow, that looks great so far. I still can't figure out why we get these historical-revisionist retimed versions.

Star Trek II is another - great picture quality, but the colors are way too cool. I'd love it if someone did a color-corrected version of that film based on the Director's Cut DVD...

In one night! I am losing what little touch I had!

Please stop confusing this thread with your self color corrections and tampering of Dark Jedi mono track. I trust Dark Jedi to fix a new mono sync to this new disc, don't steal his thunder and keep your color retiming for yourself. This isn't George Lucas destruction style, the color timing of the new Blu-ray isn't green and it is perfect.

I think dvdmike's project is definitely a valid preservation. The color correction is a good idea, to appease those who resent the teal. The initial encode does look a bit too red though. I'd suggest a middle ground. In any case, though, I agree that this shouldn't be in dark_jedi's thread. Might I suggest making a new thread here for your version, dvdmike?

Yes, but this thread is about the audio mono preservation. If one wants another color timing, shouldn't he create it's own thread?

Agreed Stamper. I said that at the end of my post.

I just wanted to say that de-tealing the new version does have a purpose, albeit as a separate preservation.

How can I get this mono track synced to new blu-ray version? Or ANY version of this track, as I can easily do it myself. I've done many AV syncs for many movies so I dont think it would be a problem.

DVDMike - I've just taken a look at your comparisons and I see big quality loss (just look at the grain structure in Tech-Noir shot) is a color correction worth it?

Personally, I think color correction will be a problem with this release. The grain structure is far too fine and detailed to re-encode without noise. There is just no way to fix it without a significant quality loss. I will have to find a setting on my DLP that suits me to view this one.

So untouched Video encode from BD with mono track is the way to go.

I absolutely do believe the teal is wrong. I've seen this film in 35mm not long ago. It was not teal. The earlier Blu-Ray's color was spot on. It just wasn't detailed.

^While you're right on the 35mm comment, you're dead wrong about the blu-ray being a good representation of how the film looked. The new transfer is riddled with modern color pallet choices, such as the strong teal tint throughout. It looks like Ridley Scott's final cut of Blade Runner for God's sake! That's definitely not how an '80s movie looks in its natural state. There's some digital manipulation of the colors going on in the most recent release for sure.
