Don't understand how I could've missed this thread. This is awesome! loved your previous effort, thanks for sharing 7FN! :)

Really hope you like how they sound, but bare in mind they are from LPs so you will still get the occasional anomaly here and there. I'm very pleased with how they turned out though, and look forward to hearing what people think, once the discussions on semantics is finished ;)

Really wish they'd release the definitive Star Wars soundtrack collection in normal and high-res versions (like The Lord of the Rings Complete Editions) mixed by the exceptional team that did The Anthology. That would be a dream come true :)

P.S. have occasionally seen my old 2008 versions floating around in netsville - how people can still call a transfer 'high res' when it's been turned into an MP3 and is the 16-bit version is beyond me.

ONLY the 24/96 files are high-res audio folks - 16/44.1 is bog-standard CD audio too, and MP3 below that, of course.

If listening to high-res I recommend reading up about it first to ensure your PC or Mac is setup properly (it can get complicated!). For Mac I recommend either Audirvana Free, or the 'bitperfect' iTunes add-on from iTunes store. For PC Foobar2000 setup properly for high-res (tons of guides out there).

You can also Google for guides on how to burn high-res audio files onto a DVD so you can play the 24/96 files on a standard dvd player! i.e.:

http://www.audio-dvd-creator.com/

You will NOT hear the benefits of high-res on simple computer speakers, or average quality built-in soundcards. You need proper, decent Hi-Fi seperates. Failing that just download the 16-bit versions.

I'm sorry for the delay. I plan to post the updated (smaller) PAR-sets tonight.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

So I have uploaded these as part of ABC's old Soundtracks Salvage set to the spleen, but they are FLACs, and don't sound bad at all, even if they aren't 24-bit, of which there are many skeptics, including this guy.

Those files were from my 2008 version 1 transfers. Different turntable setup, LPs, not professionally cleaned etc etc. Leaving the issue of high-res vs. standard-res audio to one side, the version 2s are wayyyy better in every respect. I'd delete the version 1s...

And as I said - and without wishing to appear like some audio-snob - you need a decent Hi-Fi seperates system to appreciate high-res files. I'm a very firm believer in the less digital processing you do to a file, the better. Converting from 24/96 to 16/44.1 is yet more processing/changing of the original signal... If you want the 'purist' version of my LP transfers, 24/96 is it. Though the Izotope SRC did do a very good job of converting these to 16 bit files, I must say.

Interesting article, but many points I don't agree on. There are far more convincing articles for high-res out there too.

Still it's a moot point; both 24 and 16 bit versions are in this new set. Choose your poison, and enjoy ;)

OK, I've again proven myself to be a daft bloke. Mallwalker gave me the run-down for generating these PAR-sets properly, so I'll be uploading another set tonight :-D

Silly me. I usually research things to death, but in this case, I blindly followed some tutorials and shouldn't have.

Thanks, Darth Mallwalker!

I've only had the time to listen to the score of ESB so far, and the quality is absolutely superb, extremely nice result and actually a great improvement from your last one which I thought was really good already. It's almost too good as you're hearing many of the limitations of the source more clearly as well. The album master for ESB had a quite weak and slightly distorted sound to it in the highs and the CD counterpart is even worse in this regard. But the result of this is so beautiful it's almost hard to believe it's LP sourced, surprised by how damn clean it is.

I actually often prefer the original film mixes that was mostly used for the Arista set but this is very impressive. One things for sure, I'll never need to play my own copy of the LP anymore. Looking forward to take a listen to the improvements made to your SW. I went with your 24/96 btw I only had your previous one in regular 16/44.1. Thank you 7FN! much appreciated!

Agree, we can only hope these scores will be treated as the masterpieces they are someday. In the meantime this fantastic LP preservation set will satisfy my needs. :)

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

I used to have your old transfers, but these, boy oh boy! I've been listening to these on my high end set up and these are amazing! Your original files were excellent, but these just blow them out of the water. The high res files are always welcome, even more now that I've been collecting 94/24 rips of various vinyls. I even created lossless versions to listen on my iPhone. Thank you 7FN for all the work on these and of course, AntcuFaalb for uploading them.

Thanks guys - really good to know you're pleased with the transfers, makes it all worthwhile :)

And yes thanks again to AntcuFaalb for uploading - much appreciated!

Now, if only I could afford this (or some kind soul on here could!) I could get the soundtrack LP Trilogy finished in style:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Soundtrack-Return-of-The-Jedi-vinyl-LP-1983-RSO-Records-SEALED-/380464231784?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item58956f7568#ht_1029wt_689

If anybody is feeling flush enough to buy this and send it over, I'd transfer it to high-res like the others, and give the owner a couple DVDs (and send the LP back, of course!) containing all the existing transfers by way of thanks.

I just downloaded these. They are very much appreciated. These Story Of LPs were my childhood.

For anyone who wants the artwork (for the SW and TESB releases), it is included in movealong's 'story of'  DVD releases.

Wow...I really had no idea how much the vinyl master differed. This is a true gem people. All hail 7FN; this is nuts! And I just started listening to it!

(PS when I first wrote the above sentence of course I called it the 'LD master', heh)

Dude I'm not done listening to even the first disc of your release yet, but I am on board. If I could have the seller send it directly to wherever you are I'll do it, too. I'd wanna have it back at the end of the process though

Thanks for the offer mate - very much appreciated. However thinking about it even a sealed new LP is no guarantee of a good pressing, and for that price it would be a gamble. You couldn't really send it back again if there was a fault, especially after sending it out to me first. Even more of a gamble would be sending it over to the UK, and from the UK back again to yourself, without it getting bent/damaged en route. If you'd be willing to risk all that, then cool. If not, I'm still keeping an eye out for a mint pressing here in the UK. They turn up fairly often so it shouldn't take too long.

I hope you can get a copy of Jedi, as it's a nice sounding record.  My copy was cut at Masterdisk by Howie Weinberg (though I sadly can't mail it anywhere).

Hmm, well how are you supposed to know whether it is a good pressing before you buy it regardless? At least if it's new you know that nobody has futzed with it before, right? So lemme know if you change your mind. The obstacle here might be getting them to send it to you, if the guy requires PayPal confirmed. As you say, two transatlantic trips before you even receive it is worse than none, and more expensive to boot. It wouldn't take so long as I'm on the Atlantic seaboard but would still of course add to the time and cost. But sellers all have diff policies, so I'll see if I could talk them into it - they tend to listen to you more when you have perfect feedback - in the event you decide to go through with it.

Re feedback (the other kind) and common courtesy - I feel your pain, and do hope you change your mind on that front, too. Unfortunately this kinda thing is often thankless :(

Somehow missed all of your responses to my posts in this thread. Should subscribe.

I only meant that they weren't mp3s - understood from the thread that this new transfer was much better than the old 2008 one.

Awesome. I have a pretty decent low-end system (TCA Gizmo (page 17), WAF-1 (page 8),  DAC-WOW) but the DAC is the USB version and won't do 24-bit. I'll eventually upgrade but not any time soon.

That's just it - you wouldn't know until it had been played. So it could be awsome, or it might have a few clicks/pops/warps. I doubt after it had been sent to me, then back that you'd be able to get a refund from the seller if it did turn out to be bad. I'd hate for you to be $40 down if that was the case, but really appreciate your offer.

As I said over at MySpleen, pretty much Star Wars'd out for now. If I see a mint copy of Jedi here in the UK, I'll definitely buy it, and transfer it. It's in my Ebay alert list. But no promises. If it happens I'll be sure to PM those that have been good enough to comment here, and will privately send out copies to you. I won't have this one put up on any torrent sites this time. I'm not happy with the whole legal angle, even though these are truly meant to be historical preservations of the long out of print LPs for those that already own them, not to mention my own homage to Mr Williams and his incredible music.

Really appreciate those who have taken the time to comment here, and I'm very happy they are being enjoyed. And thanks again to Antcufaalb for taking the time and trouble to share these captures.

As I said, if I get around to Jedi, will PM those who have posted...

Out of here for a while - there's a whole world out there ;)

Hey 7FN,

I downloaded these from myspleen. Thanks!

During the opening of The Story of Star Wars in the CD quality version, the audio from the first 3:15 seems to be missing. Is anyone else seeing this?

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

7FN, I have wanted to comment on these fantastic recordings you have done, but my own project has kept me busy until now. You don't know how good it is to hear these Story Of albums in such calrity and depth. They almost leap right out of the speakers. Job well done and a big kudos to you for all your hard work.

I only hope that my project can meet even half the quality of yours!

Cheers,

Adam

Sorry to hear there was such a lack of feedback on this. I recently listened to your SW LP preservation and like ESB the result is superb. I've never heard these albums in this great clear audio quality before, (again this is both a plus and a minus sometimes, due to the source material) but this is preservation and not restoration attempted by digital equalization. I really doubt you can get any better results out of these. I'm truly thankful that you shared this great work of yours 7FN, such beautifully made transfers done on such fine equipment is a true gift. Thanks! :)

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.
