And another vote here for Verbatim.

Do I see a pattern here?

Author

Another recommendation for Verbatim here as well.

I used to use Memorex, but the layer break gave me too many problems. Basically, as the player started approaching the data near the layer break, it would start to stutter until it wasn't reading any data anymore. I created a lot of coasters before I abandoned them.

Since I've used Verbatim, I've only created one coaster and that was my fault really for using the wrong settings.

Wait, DVD-9 tests?
And you've already made DVD-5 tests of Star Wars and Empire?

Not to get myself too excited, but does that mean it's nearing completion?

Or is it just burning test runs so you'll know exactly what to do when the real thing is finished?

exactly. for the last statement.

i had a chance to show a preview to some people.

and had burned copies of the movie for it:

i'm testing out the formats too.

looks like cinch is pushing for an official

AVCHD format for them also... which is

something else i will need to test out.

ok guys, thanks for all the recommendations.

looks like i'll be trying out verbatim in the

future.

any more thoughts about programs for

using to burn the copies? and i do burn

at slower speeds, so i don't think that

was the problem.

To actually burn them I use imageburn its freeware, Just set at its auto burn and never had a problem burning, the program also knows if the disc or the file has bad sectors and will inform you as such and also lets you choose were to set the layer break if needed.

Use TMPGEnc to encode, and Imgburn to burn.

Also, use Plextor or Lite-On burners.

And DVD-R (not +R) for maximum compatibility.

Thanks for the links Stretch. Had a look doesn't look like it should have a problem playing 23.976 of which it does play but as I say converts to 60hz but i have noticed on the sites for audio they all say ac3 or pcm, I have lots of discs with dts sound and the player happily plays them. I think the 60hz problem might be the players fault but cant cant find much info on the subject on the web.

The thing is that most TVs run natively at 60htz. Of course, there are some that can display 48htz or 120htz etc. Therefore most players will perform the 3:2 telecine on a 23.98 fps source. On some players you can output at 24 and have the TV do the telecine...or display in native 24fps if it has that option.

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

^ Yeah. I use a full hd projector which can display 24fps natively, which it does when playing an official Blu ray, but if I encode an AVCHD at 23.976 the player converts it to 60hz. Im now wondering if it could be the software I use "multiavchd" which I use to add simple menus or alter the size and or uncropmkv and tsmuxer which I use to do a straight remux. I'm now thinking of getting myself a different player as it looks like Panny ones are the most picky when using avchd's.

Right, so it seems like a quirk with the avchd format.

Nope. DVD+R with a bitsetting drive > DVD-R. Also has better error correcting features. Bitsetting is trivial to use nowadays; it's just a setting in ImgBurn. Granted you have to set it each and every time you begin the program but I thought that bitsetting (e.g. so that the DVD+R appears as a DVD-ROM to any player reading it) was something that everybody knew about by now...

Actually some drives do allow you to do bitsetting permanently, not that it matters a great deal.  I do it just because you never know...

Right, of course. Back in the day I think this was the only way to get bitsetting to work. But who wants to deal with custom firmwares? And the market is much more fragmented than it was, so IMHO they are more difficult to find unless you get a popular drive

Before I forget it: Would you like to have some german soundtracks, too? I can give the german 2.0 Dolby Surround Track from the Limited Edition DVD 2 to you, if you wish.
