Stupid Vimeo won't let me watch any of these >:(

hmm,

what's the issue?

i usually haven't had any problems,

try different browsers, or update your flash plugin.

I kind of want to get some people together to watch the first two Puggos (and maybe use the X9 of Jedi), but I don't know how many people would actually appreciate it or if they would just complain about the poor quality.

why not show harmy's v2/2.1 afterwards? or the

next time you meet after that? depends on if they like

the 'film' experience or are going for quality.

It just kept giving the generic "Sorry, There was an error encountered while loading this video." message. I tried a different computer, and most of them played.

I might have to keep that in mind as a backup plan.

I personally want to thank negative1 for inviting us all over to his place for the Premiere of this project!!

Please do let us know, when and where to show up negative1! I do presume that you are going to show this on a very big screen, with wondererful sound?

What food and drink do you want us to bring for the Pre-Movie party? Please do let us know!

I totally wore out mine as a kid. Did yours come with the little stickers?

I actually have another one someplace a relative gave me still in the box. I solemnly vow to wear it when we can see the OOT in a movie theater again, or when I finally have the nerve to dress as Arthur Dent for Halloween. ;)

Where were you in '77?

Just a word of advice - don't let the projectionist platter it. Some projectionists love to do this (basically splice all the reels together lying flat on a platter so that there are no reel changes) but it can really mess up the film. Platter damage is like the #1 cause of damage to film now-a-days.

Also, it is worth checking to see if you can watch it "full frame." They should be able to have the anamorphic lens on without having the framing guides on, so you could watch all the way to the edge of the screen!

Edit: Hey, just a thought, could you get all the technical specs from the theater for all of the projection nuts? (prime lenses, anamorphic lenses, sound receiver, etc.) That would be really cool to see what the last of the real movie houses are using - old vs. new technology.

already talked to the people..

no platters for me.. but yes for the LPP..

besides, for my 'used' reels, they're pretty beat up anyways,

so i'm NOT worried about them.. just happy to see them

projected..

i'll find out about the framing also..

and yeah, i'll ask what equipment they're using the next

time i go..

thanks for the advice..

Sure, just wanted to put out the info about platter damage. It is really, really dangerous to 35mm film. Less so when it has Filmguard, but the damage is still possible.

here's what cinch has to say about platters:

---------------------------------------------------------

if it's done wrong, i agree, damage can be done. not in my booth, though. i've run platter for over 10 years now, never inflicted platter damage, gate/pad roller scratching is a lot more likely to happen. otherwise who'd be using platters?

you can assure him and others that the lpp will be screened on a huge screen off a platter by no other than cinch himself. trust me, he'll made damn sure no harm come to the print. as a matter of fact, he has just completely overhauled the entire film path, platter, brain and projection head to guarantee the lpp will be safe!

Did you figure out how to solve the audio "problem" yet?
Since the reels lack english audio.

it shouldn't be too hard for cinch.

he's got a plan.

although, i'm not going to be there for his viewing.

but maybe we'll try to run some tests when

i have mine.. probably just sync some cd's

to the reels, and play those instead...

for the partial reel screening, we'll just be

playing them off film, since those are in

english..

Also remind me to build a optical printer, so I can make my own 32mm reels off your scans ;)

Oh, OK. I didn't realize it was Cinch who was planning on running it. There should be no problem running it on a platter, then. I've not met Cinch (obviously) but from what I've seen he's no novice when it comes to film. The danger when running platters is that the person running them thinks of them as like "a DVD for the movie theatre." I trust that Cinch has a few years under his belt - probably more than I do - and he'll do right by the LPP. :D

well,

let's see how it goes tonight,

if we get to watch some of the

faded reels of star wars and empire strikes back..

i'm also bringing DVD's of our 35mm version 0

of both star wars (lpp), and empire strikes back

in case we can preview them, or just to check

out.

i've made single layer and dual layer DVD

downconverts.. didn't try AVCHD's yet..

maybe in the future..

will be taking pictures and videos if

it all works out..

well,

we didn't get to see the reels yesterday.

however,

a group of about 10 people were able

to watch the first Preview 0 versions of

star wars, and the empire strikes back 35mm

 versions off a DVD player.

i have made single and dual-layer downscales

of both movies. and the quality was very good

concerning the limitations of the format. definitely

better looking than the GOUT.

got a lot of nice comments, and people were definitely

eager to hear about the work being done on them,

and wondering when and where the completed

versions were going to be out.

had a fun time talking about movies with the people

there. this was the last night before the theater goes

all digital.

so i'll be looking for other theaters that will still have

 35mm projectors.

yeah, it was fun!

lack of time setting up the reels..

they had to prepare for the digital

projectors..

maybe another time..

so going back to the thought

about how to sync up the soundtrack

with the film.

well, it looks like recording the sound,

and then having a laptop to play it back

will be the plan...

that way if it de-sync's, adjustments can

be made to make sure it sounds right.

only the first reel may have some tricky parts,

due to the splices.. and once it hits han shoots

first (which is in english). we'll know that it's ok..

I had this one :

It was my second wrist watch, my first was a 'soccer' player kicking a ball as the hour hand.

My dad got that one to try and get me interested in footy.

It instead got me interested in clockwork and sportsmen's legs.
