Yes, inkjet printable discs are used, which are white topped. There are also thermal printers, which are more expensive but have the benefit of being able to print onto regular shiny surface discs or thermal printable discs. The downside to thermal disc printing is the ink can become destabilized due to the heat generated by centrifugal force, causing smearing. You can also get an inexpensive CD title printer (does not do graphics) for about $80 that will print onto any shiny or matte surface disc. IMHO the most feasible option is an Epson R200 or R300 capable of printing onto inkjet printable discs-they run from roughly $100 to $200.
