Wow this is really bumming me out. I've said before that I wasn't buying this set but the look of Raiders is a further setback.

I'm not saying the colour palette is wrong, just to my eyes Spielberg (so much for no changes) went a bit too far. The frame cropping doesn't help either.

Thanks to those posting the links and caps.

This set is overpriced to begin with so the wait for the eventual separate releases isn't a problem and I'll definitely pick up Temple and Crusade when that occurs.

In all likelihood I'll get Raiders too, to complete the trilogy, and make the HDTV rips less immoral.

If this is out of line I'll remove it but could someone who knows about this sort of thing PM and let me know that the rips I have (Raiders 9.94GB, Temple 12.5GB, Crusade 14.1GB) are the best versions? The file names all end in W23, as in the release name, and all are 1080p.

I'm not sure how I feel about the colortiming on Raiders. It's just my opinion, but a lot of the bluray screen grabs just "feel" right to me compared to the DVD and even the other HD masters. I don't know why but the warmer tones just look more like a film from the late 70's/early 80's. I mean, look at all the talk of how much warmer-toned Star Wars was originally that we've had in recent months. And I'm quite convinced now that Star Wars really was much warmer than what we've been used to on home video. So it makes sense that might also hold true for Raiders. But I also see a bit of the modern teal/orange stuff going on now that it's been pointed out & that makes me think that it can't be totally right...

But what concerns me even more: is it true that the digital alterations like the snake reflection removal are still there? I distinctly remember reading an interview with speilberg saying those changes were NOT going to be on the bluray as they went back to the original negative and did not digitally alter anything this time. I'll be sorely disappointed if they did in fact make digital changes once again...

From what I gather (I don't have the blu ray yet), the snake reflection has indeed been removed.

Altough I will say that falls under "reasonable" in my book. (it'd be silly if they had to make two releases and people would bitch if they left something like that in, considering it can seriously pull you out of the moment)

edit: that is from again what I gather the only cgi change though. If you don't count color timing.

From what I recall of that interview Spielberg mostly said he wouldn't be making changes in the context of what he did with ET and such. People seemed to have taken it very literally.

"I would! And I, in fact, just talked with Steven Spielberg recently - we e-mailed back and forth, and I said, 'What should I say? I'm doing this publicity, what should I say if people ask me that question?' And he said, 'It's in George's [Lucas] hands! I'm game, Harrison's game, and now it's up to George to write the script or to get the script organized, and the story.' And so I think it's - they want to do a fifth, from what I understand, but they don't want to do it just to do it, they want to do it if they can come up with a story that everybody is happy with and that everybody likes."

LOL.

Kind of funny yeah. Wouldn't Indy 5 be awesome though?

(Reasoning: Indiana Jones)

But seriously, who doesn't want more of the world's greatest adventurer. I know some might say that they wouldn't want another KOTCS, I think Spielberg understands why some were rather displeased, and, well, he's at the helm, so no worries about Lucas screwing things up.

Spielberg didn't really want to do Indy 4. Georgie convinced him. That's why Indy 4 was "missing something." Spielberg did it but wasn't really invested in it.

Plus, him and the actors are all saying, "We'll do it if George writes it." That doesn't sound reassuring, unless people think there isn't enough evidence of Lucas not being a very competent writer.

Well it's not like Lucas will be writing the script by himself. I don't completely distrust Lucas' ability to create an engaging storyline, especially when other people are involved.

I completely distrust Lucas' ability to create an engaging storyline, even if other people are involved. Frank Darabont's Indy 4 script was much better than the one eventually produced. It didn't have "Mutt", either. Hmm, I wonder who might have insisted that an additional character be introduced to appeal to "younger" audiences...

One day we will have properly restored versions of the Original Unaltered Trilogy (OUT); or 1977, 1980, 1983 Theatrical released versions (Like 4K77,4K80 and 4K83); including Prequels. So that future generations can enjoy these historic films that changed cinema forever.

Translation: "I don't give a shit what George comes up with so long as I get the check."

And that interviewer was a huge d-bag for asking about the aliens in that manner.

Anyone that doesn't want to watch a 70+ year old man in that role.   The series should have ended in 1989, everything else just taints it.

The film series perhaps but there have been some pretty good Indy stories told in novels and comics. Not to mention the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles was pretty sweet when they got into the war years.

Indy could become a Bond-like character who persists through various incarnations. I'm sure nobody would hate that idea...

You'd think someone at Lucasfilm would have thought about having Sean Patrick Flanery play Indy again in a prequel film. He's about Harrison's age in Raiders now.

George can't be that crazy about Indy as an old guy since really old Indy was cut out of the home video release of the series. ;)

Where were you in '77?

YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

One could make a great Indy film with Indy being older. Then again, I'm the person whose favorite scene of all three films is the Cairo bar so what do I know?

If they do make another Indy film then ideally they should go all 'Wrath of Kahn' with it. Indy dealing with his age, wondering whether he belongs in this new nuclear age, wondering how he survived a nuclear blast in a fridge, pondering CGI prairie dogs. etc.

I prefer the look of the Blu Rays....at the end of the day it's all opinion.

I have read the whole thread but I'm still not sure what's the release of Raiders with the most accurate theatrical colors. If it's one of the HTDV release, where can I find it? Should I check my spleens?

BTW, what's about Temple and Crusade? Are they going to have good colors, or they are going to be heavily edited for the Bluray release?
