I know it’s subjective, but which officially-released version of the OUT has the most accurate colors?

My views are wild and my knowledge patchy at best, but subjectively this is the closest official thing I've seen to the technicolor screening and PS78 online :

But I wonder if every official release has been accounted for on the colour front in non-us markets? E.g. Did anyone on this forum buy this tape and can feedback on it:

Thanks for the excellent information, Frank!
Are any of the VHSs or LDs close?
Edit: I own the NTSC version of that VHS and it's in excellent shape.

For me although its pan and scan and over-brightened and has a green/yellow tint the 1982 Starkiller Laserdisc Preservation looks it has less distortion of the original colours to me than technicdisc or GOUT, based on how flesh tones register to me. That german 8mm film looks even better to me though. Again this is subjective- I invite anyone with a big collection of various releases from different countries and years to double check!!
If an image is posted for comparison purposes, I will be happy to post up to 10 versions of the same image from my PAL VHS collection. For Star Wars, I have the 1982 release right through to the 1995 Executor box set as well as the ITV broadcast.

How about this image from PS78?

As far as I know, none of the official releases (even that 1982 tape) have accurate colors, at least if aiming for the original theatrical look.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't all video releases made from separate prints which didn't have the alien subs in them? I know some of them had dark scenes brightened at least.
Your PS78 tape might just be the best we have. Or negative1's upcoming release of course.

well, if 'official' means coming off a real print
then yeah, maybe ours will be... harmy's tech ib reference
would also be pretty official then too..
but if you mean commercial public releases then no,
that would have to be one of the vhs/laserdisc releases.
the ced matches the vhs colors i think..

I don't know about "official" and especially since we've started going down the road of IB and LPP print differences. For me even though it is admittedly off in some shots, the original for me is best represented by the Technidisc. ESB via the magnificent PSB, and ROTJ uhh...something?

Thanks, Russ. I like the 1995 Executor Box set the best. Can you post some other shots from it?

To me all the VHS transfers have varying signs of red shift. Accepting Han's shirt is originally white then his shirt looks varying stages of dyed pink. The ITV is still distorted but to me I can "see thru" to more of the original white, if that makes sense?
With this as a reference for more accuracy of skin tone:
How about the colors on the cartridge restoration in "Rescuing Star Wars"? :)

@AntcuFaalb, I had a go at trying to capture the first UK PAL widescreen VHS a while ago, however i was using all cheap equipment and it was a really crude job compared to what goes on here, but i still have some clips saved i could post up some frames - if you are working towards your ideal reference from among sources
I'd appreciate that. Any screenshots are welcome, of course :-D
