I've seen that weird effect before too in your previous DVD5 (version 1.0 I guess)... looks almost like "painted digital rain" in some shots (especially when there's sky in the background). I noticed it more when watching the files directly from my computer. For some reason when I turned them into a proper DVD (but still watching them on the computer with the default player), these effects were very much minimized.

At either rate, awesome work Harmy!

I have the DVD5 and playing it on my mac, using VLC produces the following results (one is in windowed mode at normal rez, and the other is upscaled fullscreen to 1280 x 800)

They seem pretty clean on my mac, so I am guessing it is indeed the player...

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

OK, so the fixed AVCHD can be found at the usual place. Here's a new nfo:

Awesome! Sorry to sound like a broken record, but can you post the SHA-1 hash of the ISO file? Even better, for future releases just include it in the nfo file.

I know I've said it before, but thank you Harmy for all your amazing work on this project - and thanks to all the other contributors as well.

Yeah. There would really be nothing to be gained from using a higher bitrate. And, ok, I'm just gonna go out and say it, even though it's against my better judgement - I will likely do a new render for the BD in which I will fix a few things. I would still prefer any problem be reported via PM, so that I'm not caved in by an avalanche of suggestions and people trying to convince me to fix stuff I don't want to fix.

I might lower the gamma slightly on a few shots in the Luke meets Ben scene, but that's as far as I'm going with it.

That would be fantastic. I've already watched it a few times and that's the only thing that I noticed that seemed slightly off - a few shots when they first meet appear to be too blown out.

Can't wait for the BD version man.

I took *.VOB files from the DVD5 (Harmy_DeEd_v2_h_h_5.1_fixed)
and used DGIndex's "IEEE-1180 Reference" algorithm to decode.
Also used DG's RGB conversion [MPEG2Source(*.d2v, upConv=2)] with 0-255 scale.
Got this results:

Yep, the fixed one looks the same.

Here's a really good example: http://i47.tinypic.com/9tzdy0.png

This isn't my computer, though, so maybe it's just a codec issue or something.

P'raps it is. Using the built-in MPEG-2 Decoder of Media Player Classic...well the results also not exactly pretty once you blow them up, but it's not like watching a moving pastel like what you posted.

EDIT: ugh, that pic is heavily compressed and not representative. For some reason the built-in capture function of MPC is greyed out...I'll try a different output renderer, hold on.

Can you call it the '2.1' or something like that? To differentiate between versions? This kinda makes the 2.0, er, more like a workprint. I'm not saying not to do it but people are gonna get confused so we should make some game-plan.

I'm just wondering if I should hold off on the download of the 2.0 AVCHD version if an updated "2.1" version will be showing up any time soon? Downloading is painfully slow at the moment, I've got 5 parts coming over now and it's gonna take close to 2 hours just for those 5 parts, I don't mind the slow download, but I'd rather just hold off if you think and updated version is coming soon.

Very true - I just called it that so he would know what I meant. But you're right - nothing is official yet.

I agree, those few extra-bright early scenes with Luke and Ben, and maybe the couple darker shots of the Millennium falcon docked on the Death Star, are really the only things that stood out to me - otherwise this looks phenomenal. I haven't watched the whole thing since I've been waiting for the updated audio files and I juts grabbed them.

V2.1 sounds good. And the fixes will only be done to the BD. No AVCHD v2.1.

It's up on myspleen!  The new avchd is just an mds and iso file, right?  It's my first time uploading to myspleen, so please let me know if you want anything changed with any descriptions!

Thanks!

I see. That's too bad. How big will the full BD be? Is it single-layer? I wonder if I should hold off on the AVCHD and wait for the BD then, but I don't have a burner. Luckily my stand-alone media player will play BD ISO files and folders so I can still watch it on my tv. I liked the idea of the AVCHD for size but if there's some improvements in 2.1 I might wait.

Good to know - I'll probably hold off then for the BD. I bet it'll look fantastic, just a bit larger than I was planning for. It'll be worth it.

Still, too bad you won't consider an AVCHD also - I'd probably grab both since I know someone who's a huge Star Wars fan and he'd love this, but there's no way I could get him a BD since I can't burn it - the AVCHD would have been perfect.

Harmy, just out of curiosity, are there still plans for new disc art and Blu Ray cover art or is someone else handling that?

Yes, there are but I'm working on other stuff right now. New cover will be released with the BD, as well as the old cover adjusted to v2.0 specs.

Well the Blu-ray dose have DVNR,or maybe it's just from the down scaling.

Edit:the official Blu-ray,plus the GOUT has DVNR.

One day we will have properly restored versions of the Original Unaltered Trilogy (OUT); or 1977, 1980, 1983 Theatrical released versions (Like 4K77,4K80 and 4K83); including Prequels. So that future generations can enjoy these historic films that changed cinema forever.

Grr! beat me to the punch :) Helping to seed now.

I appreciate your consistency with regards to the title of the torrent, thanks (prolly wouldn't have specified ISO but that doesn't matter). I wanted to include a modified version of the readme with it but that's not so important. It might be a good idea to point out that your torrent has the fixed version of Hairy_Hen's 5.1 and that this isn't your project (duh).

If possible you should also learn how to open your ports so that people who don't have theirs open can also connect to you (unless you're on a university network or something)

Thanks for all the tips! I'll check it out when I get home tonight.  I definitely didn't mean to take credit for Harmy's work! :O

I didn't mean to suggest you did!

Other thing is to link to the other versions (I've now linked to yours)
