Forgive my ignorance of such matters but one of the problems with these deleted scenes (not just the OT ones but the PT ones 'finished' for the DVD sets but not the blu-ray) is resolution.
From a preservation sense this is insurmountable (there is only so much silk purse you can get from a sow's ear).
But approaching it from the fan-edit side is it possible to mask the lower than HD resolution by reducing the size of the elements in a frame and remounting them in HD mattes (sort of like what Harmy did when putting OUT elements into scenes partly derived from the SE)?
One example, the alien pilots in ROTJ.
In the SE and the PT there are lots of shots of pilots moving around and talking seen from fighter cockpit windows (the same goes for things like nuGalactica).
If a model A-Wing was made and added to the battle and the deleted elements (cleaned and free of scratches) were reduced in frame to fit into the model, would it hide the resolution drop off?
If the bunker footage was placed in an HD matte of the original set or a more elaborate one where the current actors were more distant in the composition and maybe supplemented with new actors in the foreground would that serve to make the material more presentable or would it look more obviously fake?
Does the eye perceive more distant objects as lower in resolution than closer
