I can definitely see WWII with the imperial uniforms and with all of the aerial dogfighting.

And I can definitely see westerns...I think I actually made the comment before that when "Star Wars" came out, westerns were still really popular and prevalent in culture, so Han shooting Greedo under the table, and the whole cantina sequence, would have seemed like no big deal at the time.

In 1997, westerns had died out and I think maybe Lucas forgot that there are scenes like the cantina scene in many, many westerns.
