PM sent as well to MKV. Would still love to see your full BDs though, DisgruntledFan! :-)

What? Who has full blu-ray of the USA Version??

And what's the deal with the Russian one? US Cut with Eric Serra's score?? That would totally defeet the porpoise!!

...and everyone knows that porpoises should always be carried in stretchers with watering cans. ;-P

PS: I have been watching Netflix like a hawk, but The Big Blue has apparently been pulled from both Streaming and Discs.

DisgruntledFan actually made 2 Full BD25s. One BD is an HD reconstruction of the USA version with video from the official BD, and the other BD is a high quality version of the HDTV Broadcast of the USA version with logos removed. Unfortunately, the torrent he uploaded on MySpleen was taken down.

Oh, the Russian one is a 720p HDTV-rip of the American Cut. However, it's quality is probably lower than Disgruntled Fan's disc(s). It has multiple audio options. Two are Russian. The other is an English DTS track with Eric Serra's score, edited to fit the US Cut. However, the final audio option is an English Surround Sound version of the USA Cut with Bill Conti's score; presumably it's ripped from the HDTV broadcast. It's a definitely interesting option to be able to switch between the Serra and the Conti score for comparison purposes.

This Russian one is available on the Russian torrent site: RuTracker. I just PM'ed you the direct link.

I would like to see a custom US-cut Blu-Ray Disc.

If someone wants to use the European BD I have as base for a custom BD, that would be great.

it is the Director's Cut (Version Longue)

It is also only French-dubbed, unfortunately.  This is the part that really irked me.  2 different French 5.1 audio tracks.

Were I to do this, I would use the best English audio source, and cut up the h264 AVC to match the US cut.

Problem is I don't own a copy of the US cut, nor English (original) audio in any format, so I never bothered trying this myself, but believe me, I have wanted access to a copy with the proper audio.  I hate live action movies with dubs

<div>*If* there are scenes in the US version not on the DC, I suppose they could be taken from the Netflix stream or the best available source, upscaled, color corrected, and grain added/matched to BD.  I have no clue as I have, unfortunately never seen the US version.  Sadly I was stupid and got this thinking that the original language would be French since Besson is French.  My faux pas.  live and learn.</div>

EDIT:

I see someone already did this.

anyone want to point me in the correct direction, preferably to the 2xBD25s (not an mkv) by DisgruntledFan?  Myspleen wouldn't have been a good place for me to locate, anyhow, since I was never a member there (but it seems more sites are restricting fanedits, which I assume was the reason it was taken down there).

thanks for any help

Currently working on a way to post it somewhere anonymously.

Probably usenet. Otherwise it will be available on a torrent site for a limited time only.

ETA October. Will post in this thread when it is available.

usenet works for me.  i use free servers, but it gets the job done for downloads (unfortunately I can't upload this way).

torrent sites also work, but o/c so many lately now have no fan-cut (or even no custom subbed) discs, and not everybody can access all torrent sites, not even the greatest tracker collectors (you can go for making a .torrent file with a bunch of public trackers in tracker list, and use DHT, etc, but just not list the torrent at any public tracker site.  you just hand out the .torrent file to a few people, post it at a filesharing site that doesn't bar countries, etc, or host .torrent at a bunch of file lockers to give some choice and in case links die).

If you want to go for private tracker, I think Bit-HDTV allows custom and fan-made discs.  BitHQ no longer allows fanedits (they do allow fansubbed dscs).  Cinematik would probably allow it, but may want to get mod approval.  But tik doesn't allow anon uploads, whereas BitHDTV does (for higher userclasses).  Maybe also HDSpace would work.   Maybe HD-Torrents.  Maybe CHDBits.  Maybe HDRoad.  passthepopcorn may allow it (I would get approval first), and some user classes appear to be allowed to upload anon.  Either way, wherever you upload it, perhaps you can allow people to port it to a few other sites, to give people a shot at different sites.

I suggested sneaker torrent. i.e. send me a blu-ray, I'll burn two and send them on, and so on, and so on....

I'm dying to get my hands on a copy of the US version of this film as well if anybody could forward me a link or source. I've been hanging on to an old vhs copy for a long time now. Love Bill Conti's score for this film.

For anyone interested, there's a torrent of the U.S. Edit on RuTracker. It's HD, Widescreen and great quality. I assume it's a cap of the broadcasts of this version. Interestingly enough, the uploader made an alternative audio track for the release that uses the music and DTS 5.1 from the Director's Cut DVD but synced to the video.

I have signed up just to be able to download the US version with Bill Conti's score.

Please let me know where I can download the full movie.

I have been trying for ages to own this version but no luck.

I watched the new European version with Eric Serra's score and have to admit that it lost the charm of the US cut.

Thank you in advance :)

I have the laserdisc, but during encoding there were a couple of glitches--I really need to get a new laserdisc player, but that's not likely....  Now I have to figure out how to cut 10 seconds from one encode, and paste it into the other.  Then maybe I'll replace all the video with that from the blu-ray, except for those couple of shots that don't exist on blu-ray, and then we'll have as good as we'll get of a US Theatrical Release.  :-)

captain, an HD scan of what is presumably a 35mm print of The US Theatrical Cut from HDTV is already available on RuTracker. Using the LD should be unnecessary.

Furthermore, DisgruntledFan has already made a hybrid using a higher quality HDTV rip/capture than the one on RuTracker; he/she just hasn't had the opportunity to re-torrent it (as it was taken down from myspleen). He also apparently has a higher quality HD version of the HDTV rip/capture without the BD video, just with the logo removed.

I sure would like to get my hands on DisgruntledFan's versions!  Is there no way to do that?

Where did you get it?  I've looked everywhere, but can't find it.

edit:  Nevermind I found it on rutracker, it's in the foreign movies (HD) section on around page 291.

I got the HDTV torrent, it's pretty good quality!  It's not perfect, but definitely better than watching the VHS!

I just put the 720p HDTV torrent of the English/Bill Conti version on extratorrent.  It's 4.4 GB and another smaller version of it with 499 MB.

Interesting discussion. I always felt that the European theatrical version was the best version to go for..... I feel that the DC loses much of the magic of the film due to unneccessary or even annoying scenes.
