That original trilogy change you wouldn't mind — Page 2

Yeah, who the heck are all those loons on Tatooine partying in 120 degree heat?

I thought everybody had fled Cloud City at the end of ESB.

I prefer to think the film cuts away from Coruscant right before the TIE fighters swoop in to blast those disloyal crowds. ;)

I think the yub-nub celebration should canned in favor of Kool and the gangs' "celebrate good times"  track instead.  Seriously though I'd like to see:

1) More Y-wing action in ANH.  Would've love to see dogfighting scenes involving those ships.

2)  From the opening scene in ANH, the blockade runner's lasers scaled down so they look like they were actually fired from those small twin cannons.  The ones on the movie being shot at the SD were HUGE and looked a big as the blockade runner itself!

3) ROTJ space battle.  again issues with blockade runners.  There were rebel fleet scenes in which blockade runners looked HUGE!  When the fleet prepares for hyperspace u can see the BR aft engines and they appear about as big as the starcruisers.  Also I would've loved to see action from the B-wings, aside from just locking s-foils.

the changes were 90% pathetic repulsive garbage (in your face cgi characters, bad sound effects, changes to editing that ruined the storytelling) or 9% nuetral tradeoff (replacing old background mattes with digital mattes).  I cant really think of anything that actually improved except for 1% below:

1)replacing "tractor beam" so its not in english ;P

2)adding that extra 'oomph' to vaders voice in SW (anyone know why it was different?  im sure sound technology didnt change that much between 1977-1980)

3)during trench run, when the ships are coming right towards you, they go through the camera instead of cutting to the next shot - this was the only thing that still looked like 1977

The only "change" I could support would be one that was never done: Removing the Episode Numbers from Empire and Jedi...they remind me of the Prequels.

-Someone, someday, needs to bring back the LIGHT SIDE to Star Wars.  Has anyone else noticed striking similarites between the character of Anakin/Vader and George Lucas, or is it just me?

-It's called STAR WARS. NOT "Episode IV: A New Hope". Kids, get this straight.

-Please read the Archie Goodwin daily SW comics: Too good to be forgotten!

Not really a change, but fix it to where the garabage mattes are no longer visible. To me this has been one of the worst things to come out of the video transfers.

Things which I wouldn't mind to be changed :

generally :

- fixing bad composites, matte lines etc.

- remastering the audio

Star Wars :

- putting back the Jabba scene

- digital dewbacks and other animals - both were originally planned to be in the movie

Empire Strikes Back :

- putting back the wampa footage (actually I would love if he restored the complete sequence, not just a few scenes)

Return of the Jedi :

- the thing in the sand (I don't remember its name right now) looks now less like a giant butthole with teeth and more like an alien, I like that

- actually I would love if the whole sandbarge sequence would be re-shot or at least re-composited so that it looks like a fight sequence and not a bizarre ballet number

I see a problem with this statement. Does anyone else?

Well he DID plan to use Dewbacks in the first movie, didn't he ?

Not digital dewbacks, though, for obvious reasons.

Of course. What I meant is "I don't have a problem with the fact that he decided to put digital creatures like e.g. dewbacks to the movie, because the dewbacks were always meant to be in the movie"

I don't know... to me, that's a lot like saying "I don't mind Hayden Christensen in ROTJ because he always intended Anakin to be in that scene."  Hayden hadn't been invented yet either ;)

I think pittrek is saying that he didn't mind that the dewbacks from the original film were replaced with CG ones in the "look sir, droids" scene and others.

I've always had a problem with Leia's line about getting that "walking carpet" out of her way.

This is a woman who is a/the leader of thousands of worlds and thousands of species fighting the Empire.  She grew up in galactic politics and knows to have more tact than that even if she is as speciesist as the Emperor.  Plus, she'd be fully aware of the Empire's enslavement and brutal treatment of the Wookiees and their role in the rebellion.  PLUS Chewbacca was there to rescue her from the god damned DEATH STAR.

That line will be removed in my fan edit, when I get around to it...late planning stages right now.

I wouldn't mind putting in ROTJ emperor in the ESB-hologram.

It's been done, you say? No, I say. The emperor that's in the new SE versions is the ROTS-emperor, his make-up doesn't sync up well with the ROTJ-emperor at all. Also, he has been given new lines and presents PT-cruddy delivery of those lines as well. So that attempt failed. Indeed, I prefer an untouched ESB to what's been done...

She just watched her entire planet get blown up earlier in the day, and then almost got crushed to death in a garbage compactor filled with who knows what. Not to mention all the torture and mind control drugs. I'd be a little pissy too under those circumstances. ;)

She hugs Chewie right after the Tie Fighter battle.

She wasn't have a go at his species but his character.

Chewie is a Han's doormat and she's trying to get him to stand up for himself and not get dragged further into any of his schemes (see I'm better at this than Lucas).

Personally I wouldn't mind stuff like the recomposits etc (provided they have the original starfields/backrounds etc).

I'd also like to see things like mattes fixed so you don't have those ugly green boxes around ships in some shots. (I guess that would've been less visible on actual film)

One pet peeve of mine has always been the redness in darth vaders eyes in some shots. Now I don't know if you could see that in the theathrical versions due to contrast/brightness differences. But it is rather inconsistent. Playing around with GIMP a little I found that if you desaturate the red parts of the eyes (and only the red parts) you end up with pretty natural black looking eyes.

I suppose for changes I don't "Mind" but stil wouldn't like to see fixed if possible. Stuff like the speeder blob.

Are you familiar with this hypothesis?

A New Sith, or Revenge of the Hope

I've only just recently come across it, but I'm thinking about maybe hinting at this kind of scenario when I do my edit.

I think I would have preferred them adding scenes then tweaking the effects though I agree with the matte boxes needing to be removed.

I would have added a scene early in A New Hope where Palpatine orders Vader to go to Tarken and watch over him.  That would explain his presence on the space station.  It also would have put Palpatine in ep. 4 which is the only one hes not in.
