Or maybe a more general question: at this point, are there any known bad sites for this?

Yes, TPB is definitely broken, mkvextract fails on it too.

Yup. I downloaded from TPB also, and the MKV fails at 24%

Now DL'ing from the 'Spleen.

Wow... it's YOU! I use your site all the time. It's been very helpful with my VHS project(s). Excellent work!

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

I don't know what any of you are talking about with the TPB torrent failing.  It contains the MKV, along with the Threepio Project folder, minus the par2 files, pl files, and html file, BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T ALLOWED.  I did NOTHING to alter the MKV and it is fully intact, with all audio and subs.

It’s really sad when the “creative minds” behind something we hold dear are also guilty of its destruction.

Hey, Nearsighted.  It is all intact, but unfortunately, the mkv is corrupt. That's what people are saying.

I haven't received one bad comment on it yet, and it checks out fine for me.

You're getting a bad comment from me on it :).  Not aimed at you personally, obviously, but the mkv didn't work for me.

Ouch, I feel for Scrappile if the TPB dl is fubar'd.. Sometimes everything goes fine but the results aren't what you expect even if you do everything right :(

Awesome, this is highly appreciated! Downloading now! Is it possible to get non-forced (i.e. regular) Japanese subtitles? My girlfriend's japanese and (oh dear!) has never watched Star Wars...

Author

It's a possibility in the future.  Right now we have no Japanese source files to work with.  I'm just happy we have the dub...

Well you weren't supposed to extract the MKV yourself and then upload the MKV. You need to upload the rars and pars just like it was given to you by Harmy. And why? Because now we are screwed. If you had uploaded the rars and there was some corrupt files we could repair those, but as it stands we can't repair what you decided to upload.

Could you please start a new torrent but this time upload the rars and pars?

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

Ok, I just extracted my rar archive which is definitely ok, and then verified the torrent at TPB. I'm really sorry, but I'm afraid it's indeed faulty. The first 3.83GB (24.3%) of the main movie seem to be ok, but from then on every single byte differs.

As a side note concerning the readme: Simply change the file type to .nfo if the tracker does not allow text files.

EDIT: When I advised Harmy to create par2 recovery files, my primary intend actually was that uploaders could verify and repair the files BEFORE creating mirrors or torrents.

The par2 files in the original uloz upload should not have been made into a separate rar archive: they should have just been added to the upload "loose", as it were.

Anyway, this is incredible work, Harmy.  I thought I'd watch it just for the colors, because, as you know, I don't like the 2004 SE that underlies most of this, but you did everything so well I could almost have believed it was a new transfer.  I'm really impressed.  Oh, and happy birthday.

LOL, wish I had known that earlier; glad that my files turned out OK all the same.

Harmy never specified doing so, and having to seed RARs is a PITA. Some trackers, such as the spleen, do not allow archives (other than disc images). Going forward, we'll know that it's a good idea to use PAR2 files whenever we have them though. I'm sorry you guys got burned but the dude wasn't out to screw anybody over...

Okay everybody,

I have taken down the torrent at 1337x and TPB.  I don't know where it happened, but I can confirm the MKV glitches around the 34 minute mark, and causes MPC to lock up and crash.  I guess that's what I get for just skimming before uploading it.  There's no way to tell when or where the fault occurred, so I'll be going after it on MySpleen and hopefully I'll have a better copy.  Between JDownloader and all the damn CAPTCHA's, WinRAR, and the act of downloading itself, I don't know where it happened, but it did.

My apologies, everyone.  "Hey, Your Worship, I'm just tryin' to help!"

*EDIT*

I have joined the swarm at MySpleen and I will seed my pants off.  I have incredible speed and will share as long as I am able.

I honestly have no idea. It seems to be working fine in general; there are now some 40 leechers in the swarm, including some heavyweight uploaders (with 2x my upload speed, an' tha's sayin' a lot). May be a good idea to make sure your client is supported or something. Not trying to be patronizing; just helpful...

I wonder if that has anything to do with the bad bencoded data error I received at MySpleen when I tried to create a torrent there.

Oh, and I am now seeding from two diff locations (that's why it says there's two seeders). The second place has the same shitty up speeds most of America does, but hey, I might as well :)

Possibly. I don't know enough about torrents. Meanwhile, here's the wiki

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bencode

I thought it had something to do with base64 encoding but no, bencode is completely different.

Hey guys, I have a question. Harmy has used a fade-free Technicolor print of Star Wars, so we can assume his restoration is 99,99% perfect in terms of colors. But what about crushed blacks that are present in the 2004 master used by Lucasfilm for the DVD and Bluray releases? Do you removed them with your magic skills, Harmy?

Author
Time

So, for the upcoming AVCHD and BD, it'd probably be a good idea to not only create par2 files for the rar archive, but also an sfv file (contains CRC32 checksums) allowing us to verify the extracted content. What do you guys think? Would it help if Harmy created one for SW2.0 now?

Author
Time

AFAIK, blacks that were truly crushed out of existence (the data is gone) could not be recovered except via Snicker's method which were not used here.  However, there are a LOT of cases where blacks were crushed to the point of imperceptibility (there was data to work with, just not visible), and Harmy was able to recover those.

Yeah, the levels have also been tweaked along with the colors. There's far more detail now in each shot as a result. Easy to see during the 'Vader chokes Capt Antilles' scene at the beginning of the film.
