How would a Star Wars reboot do? — Page 3

IMO, the business propositions that deserve the greatest consideration are those with a potentially high up-side while having a quite low potential down-side.

If PROMETHEUS could earn so much with an R rating and the difficulties it had, I have to believe that the chances of a couple of SW movies failing to earn back their production costs are exceedingly low.

I would be inclined to want a remake of the basic story-line of the OT and a reboot of the PT.

I don't believe the '77-'80 generation would ever consider any OT remakes to have matched or exceeded ANH or ESB. Curiosity and controversy would be the main drivers for that crowd, I suspect. OTOH, there would be a real chance that the younger generations might see them as equal or even superior.

In any event, if they are produced in a spirit of love, enthusiasm and respect for the OT, I think they could be much enjoyed by nearly all.

^As long as the originals are restored and preserved.

Otherwise the scribbled on versions will grate even more if money could be flung at a remake.

Not even the original creator displays this. And he's the only one with the license.

Honestly, back when I had any traces of hope lingering, I considered the live action as a form of reboot of the OT story. It could've been told from a different perspective, side-stories of minor heroes (pilots, spies, smugglers, slicers, you-name-them) caught in the galactic Civil War. If X-Wing and Dark Forces games fared so well, why couldn't we have a TV series like that? Why for the last 15 years anything SW-related has to include some idiot running in bathrobe and with some neon-sword?

Examples? You want something modern, catchy? A story about a young rebellious (pun intended) slicer [that's hacker for us] surfing the Holonet [that's Internet for us], nearly caught by Imperial Security Bureau, saved and recruited by rebel intelligence? Surely such cyberpunkish thing wouldn't generate interest, right? Riiight...

I saw the original theatrical release of the Old Trilogy on the big screen and I'm proud of it...
How did I accomplish that (considering my age) is my secret...

I dont favor a reboot of the OOT.  Just cant see anyone else playing those legendary roles.

Now Im all for a PT reboot.  IMO, TPM  AOTC and ROTS along with the absurd CW should be wiped from existence.  A writer/producer/director with great talent and deep passion for epic-quality should be at the helm.

What a great idea! I'd love a reboot for the Original star wars trilogy. It will sure reflect the new age and make its own impact to the next generations. The idea seems to be possible with clone wars like animation in order to maintain low costs but high quality to the final movie. What a great oportunity that the old ships get a revamp and shine again to space. New actors can give a total new dimension to the already good script. Imagine Michael Fassbender with a cold small role as Governor Tarkin. With a nice contrast a warm Ben kenobi portraited by donald sutherland. The cast could also include names such as Lilly collins for Princess leia and Ryan Cosling as han solo. What do you think? Mat damon looks very good for an 70s look Luke skywalker

What is so funny?

You miss-spelled Matt Damon, Ryan Gosling, and Lily Collins.

You should have used Portrayed, not Portraited.

Your grammer is questionable.

And, Matt Damon looks goofy in that picture.

Although, Donald Sutherland as Obi-Wan Kenobi is an interesting idea.

Im sorry i didn't know that you were here to judge me for my grammer. I only wanted to show some interest to the reboot ideas.

Don't forget about the spelling. I'm judging that, too.

But really, I think my "humor" missed the mark...by a wide margin.

Donald Sutherland as Obi-Wan? Sorry, but I just can't see it.

Donald Sutherland as Joruus C'baoth, though ... I can totally see that.

I was laughing at those pictures.  Especially Matt Damon and what appears to be one messed up Mark Walhberg.

What actor do you prefer for an alternative cast DuracellEnergizer?

Frankly, beyond Ewan MacGregor as Obi-Wan, I really can't see any other actor playing the OT characters. I'd definately cast a woman to play Palpatine, but I have no specific actresses in mind for the part.

I was just thinking about that the other day. Maybe Lucas, having caused so much inaccuracies in the prequels, could treat the prequels as a beginning of a new series and simply continue it with equally horrible new episodes IV, V and VI, which would complete his "original" vision of a cohesive six film saga and finally allow him to leave the original trilogy alone...

It might be a good idea Harmy! The prequel trilogy already have their own audience. Keeping push forward with this direction and style and making the 3 original episodes like the prequels will make a lot people happy and lot of others mad or depressed. I can assume that Mr Adywan will make the prequels as the Original fans want and Lucas will make the Original episodes as the Prequel fans want. Still aiming to a younger audience.

Matt Damon was considered for star trek 2009 but he was too old, they wanted a young Matt Damon.

They got Chris Pine who i could imagine playing Anakin Prequel Skywalker more than Kirk. But hey that is just my opinion.

George Lucas rebooted Flash Gordon and created Star Wars™. Let's
reboot the star wars. [/end of elevator pitch]

Here are working titles for the as-yet unnamed trilogy:

1. Gathering Force

2. Empire Disrupted

3. Final Assault

We can reboot it. We have the technology. We have the capability to
build the next great science fiction franchise*.

*All you need is cash - The Rutles.

It's unlikely 'name' actors will be cast, though as per Star Wars we may cast a known actor for credibility (ie Lucas cast Guinness for credibility reasons).

A reboot of the OT would be more like the films GL envisioned before more intelligent people took over and made them the classics they are. Instead of allowing the OOT to be left alone it would give an even bigger excuse for destroying them right under our noses. It probably would not have made any money anyway, but a $600 million loss to Lucas is probably a drop in the bucket for him, and hell, he probably have the studio take the loss for him. He can throw millions of people into suicidal depression due to these reboots simply because he has enough money to gain immunity from the consequences of his actions.

Too repetitive.  Pick almost any thread, you can find some of this in it.
