Harmy, did you already start encoding? From 01:51:07:00 onwards, there is a white stripe at the left side of the picture. Nothing that would be bad, but also easy to fix.

I don't see it. And yes, I did start encoding. Anyway, if it was there, it wouldn't be easy to remove at all.

It's visible with VLC, but shouldn't bother anyways because it's the part of the picture that's invisible on most screens.

You need to uncheck the 'randomly add white stripe' option in VLC. That should clear it up.

Using for instance tsmuxer's "append" to join multiple h264 streams into one mts-container is absolutely fine, as long as the number of encoded frames per part is a multiple of the GOP-size. Then it'll be a "clean" h264 stream. If it's not, certain hardware decoders MIGHT have a problem, although I doubt that anybody will actually run into one that can't handle it.

I had the same problem with a couple of video projects. Some frames just didn't make it error free into the final master lossless file. Problems like these are, in my opinion, the reason why it's never a bad idea to render an image sequences out of After Effects in the first place, and only go to a lossless codec "master archive file" after an initial test encode. Although, I never bother to, I just keep the image sequence as the master. It's easier to archive to DVDs too, I just divide them into chucks of 4.2GB and use the rest of the disc space for parity (PAR2), just in case the DVD fades away after a few years.

Yeah, I don't think that all frame numbers would come to the correct multiple of the GOP-size, so I'm not risking it.

Anyway, bad news. The encode was going so slow that I had to cancel it, because I'm leaving for a week tomorrow and I'm taking the computer with me and the encode wouldn't have been done in time. I won't have a stable internet connection there, so I won't be able to upload anything until next weekend, but I should almost definitely be able to finish encoding during the week, so Tuesday August 28 (my birthday) should be a definite public release date of the MKV version.

Sorry about this getting delayed again but you'll be getting a superior product thanks to it.

That will be a nice B-day gift to everyone on your behalf, Harmy. Can't wait!!!

So, I was considering maybe ditching After Effects and trying out NUKE for ESB and ROTJ v2.0, as I was thinking about maybe applying for a job as a 2D compositor with Universal Production Partners and they require experience with NUKE software.

Does anyone have experience with this compositing software?

Please answer in this thread!

No kidding! Would he be able to use these, though? Copyright and all that...

Having had work based on someone else's IP on my animation reel, I can say it's not a legal problem.  You're not selling that work, you're just demonstrating your ability.  In animation it's better to show your own stuff rather than someone else's IP, but in this case I think it wouldn't raise any eyebrows.

Rendering is in progress again and going very slowly (0.75fps), but as long as everything's fine in the encode, I don't really mind.

I'm still waiting for v2 of hairy_hen's 5.1 mix. If it's not ready before I have to start uploading to meet the 28 August release date (I'll have to start uploading on the 24th or 25th at the latest!) I'll use the older one and people will have to mux the new one in on their own.

On a related note, just wanted to report which audio tracks I have been able to collect so far and ask you guys if you knew about any other NTSC GOUT synced tracks I could use. So here goes; I have and will be using:

h_h's 70mm 5.1 (v1 for now)

1977 Stereo (probably will use the analogue capture)

1977 Mono (Belbucus VHS preservation)

1993 Stereo (LD capture)

Czech Stereo (the same VHS capture as v1.0 but with improved sync)

German Stereo (Improved version from Laserschwert with missing lines returned)

French Stereo (GOUT)

Italian Stereo (GOUT)

Spanish Stereo (GOUT)

Japanese Stereo (GOUT?)

Hungarian Stereo (1993)

Have you seen schorman13's recent work? He ripped digital '77, '80, and '83 stereo mixes from an LD set.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

I have put together a comprehensive list of what is generally known to be available as NTSC GOUT synced for all three Original Trilogy films.

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/A-summary-of-GOUT-synced-Video-Audio-and-Subtitle-sources-WORK-IN-PROGRESS/topic/14360/

Apart from the official Japanese GOUT, all are available from official GOUT sources that people on OT.com have or from projects on OT.com......

The only one I'd suggest you consider is the Belbucus ISOSCORE track.

@moth3r: I'd love to include that. Where do I get it? Edit: NVM, got PM from someone.

@AntcuFaalb: The analogue vs. digital capture of the 77 stereo's been discussed before: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Harmys-STAR-WARS-Despecialized-Edition-HD-AVCHD-DVD9-and-NTSC-DVD5-AVAILABLE-see-1st-post/post/589793/#TopicPost589793

@russs15: That's cool but a bit confusing to be honest. Too many options and many of them overlap (eg. the stereo and mono mix in mine is the exact same audio file as moth3r's etc.)

@Harmy: I extracted the French tracks from the NTSC GOUT. I think you can remove that question mark. ;) Although I don't know why, ROTJ is a fraction of a second not in sync, So I'll have to correct this before you release ROTJ v2. But I think we have plenty of time for that.
