Does anyone have a good rip of this? I’m trying to find a sealed VHS copy with no luck. I would love to see this preserved as there is little to no hope of a DVD on this.

Holy coincidence, Batman! I just got a copy of this on Discovision, (Laserdisc's early rot-plauged incarnation) but haven't tried it on the old gas-tube player yet to see if it will play without any dropouts. I'll let you know.

If you need help with that, I also have a Gas-Tube Sylvania branded Pioneer Model VP7200 that is one of the better players for DiscoVision discs. I hereby offer my services.

Jesus that's cool.

I assume that the disc is Pan and Scan?

This is full frame. Funny thing is, I did see it on the SciFi channel in the mid 90's and one brief shot of computer text was letterboxed at 1.85, the rest of the movie was full screen. None of the old HBO showings I remember had this.
I went on the Universal Studios Tour a lot back in the 80's, and several of the giant props from the movie were on display. (I got my picture taken in the giant mouse cage.) I wonder where the huge Mike Douglas Show interview chair is now?

Holy crap, I saw the props too! I remember the big chair most of all. For the longest time I couldn't figure out if I had actually seen the props, or if I was just having those weird nonsensical kid memories. Anyway, full frame or not, I really would love to see a good transfer of this. I have a standalone DVD+R TV rip with commercials. I would like to compare and see if there are any extra TV/video scenes.

Edit:
God I'm a nerd.

I made a capture of the Discovision disc last night. I will try to get some screencaps up later tonight.

Okay, here we go. Video/transfer quality in the Discovision era, was to put it mildly, crap. TISW also has always had this weird grainy look every time I've seen it on tv. Maybe they grained up the rest of the film to make the many effects shots not stick out?
These bitmap captures are a bit large, if you're on dialup, click at your own risk!
Main title
Yes, it's the same director you're thinking of.
Lili Tomlin's lost film. "I married the Creature from the Black Lagoon."
Who's in the box?
Going shopping...
Mike Douglas Show
Long distance call.
Makeup guru Rick Baker nearly steals the end of the movie as a Sydney the sign-talking gorilla.

It seems to me that every time that I've seen this movie, it was kinda fuzzy like that. I'll have to dig out my TV>Stand-alone DVD+R copy and check it out. I'd like to check out the discovision copy too.

Silverwook, if you don't mind, I'm going to up this to Demon sometime soon. I'm working on a cover for it, and will put your username on it if you don't care.

Did anyone end up capturing the HDTV broadcast of this? Know where it is? Know if it actually aired?

Anyone seen the Amazon DVDR?

I've read that it's a beautiful anamorphic widescreen picture, probably sourced from the HDTV broadcast....

And I've read that it's a grainy fullscreen waste of money.

Would like to know which is really the case before buying this. With my luck with this movie, I would buy it and a blu-ray would be announced the following day.

Wow, I have not seen this in years. I mainly saw this on HBO in the 80's. I read a little on the amazon site. Sounds like it is not a very good version or I would buy it.

Anyone have any luck finding a preservation?

I'm curious about the scenes some people claim to have seen added for tv.

Apparently when Lily first attempts to call for help from the secret lab, she ends up speaking with her Edith Ann character!

I have a version from TV. I do remember those scenes, but I'm not sure if they're on my capture. Will check it out sometime.

This is currently playing on HBO HD.

Is there any chance someone could capture this? If not, could anyone with HBO at least determine if this is the TV version or the edited theatrical?

I wish I had HBO right now. No cable in our place.
