AFAIK Sony's PS3 was long time one of the best DVD upscaler on the market. (At the dawn of BD.)
Maybe you want to look for a more like "cheaper" Brand product, if you are planning on importing movies from Europe or Asia, because the BD Players of big brands seldom have region free options.
Also region free european BDs (exspeccially from germaqn smaller labels) may not work on an US Player, if there is PAL encoded SD material, like trailers or extra features.
