PROMETHEUS was (Alien 0?) NOW NO LONGER SPOILER FREE. — Page 23

Any android worth it's price tag would have two bits of important firmware.

One protecting itself (because it's an expensive piece of equipment) and the other protecting company employees in order of rank.

I imagine what happened in the Vickers vs David tussle is David can not harm Vickers in self defense but he can regulate his body movement and maybe even adjust the distribution of his body mass (do they weigh as much as us?) to protect himself.

That way she could pin him up against the wall with her proven athleticism (this is the nearly nude pushups girl after all) aided by his body firmware positioning his body in such a way as to reduce risk to himself.

He is ordered not to divulge what Weyland said to him but he can not carry out his master's orders if Vicker's damages him in an attempt to get information out of him so it makes sense he would make a limited disclosure of information to protect his ability to carry out his prime function.

There is a complex equation built into him which balances his need to carry out instructions against self preservation in order to enable him to carry out his instructions.

This would extend to physical situations like that one too.

I don't understand why people are perplexed about Vickers being able to push David against the wall.  Ripley pushed Ash into the wall in Alien... it has a precedent.

I think it's more the manner of the pinning which could just be down to the Ripley/Ash size ratio being different from the Vickers/David one.

That and Ash doesn't mind if Ripley damages herself damaging him but David is probably programmed to not damage Vickers unless he really, really has to.

Okay, here's an early look at the specs. for the upcoming French 3-disc PROMETHEUS release - http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=9076

So it looks like another dose of double dip.

15mins of deleted scenes doesn't sound extensive.

agreed - and no word of an extended version of the film, at least the documentaries sound extensive. maybe we'll get an understanding of what the movie was meant to be..

as much as I enjoyed the 3d element of the film it really felt like overkill, like David watching Lawrence of Arabia in 3d and the holograms in Vickers quarters in 3d. Hopefully the bonus features will be available in a 2d only version as well.

Hey Bingowings, did you see they namechecked you in August's issue of 'Empire'?

You're mentioned again further down the page.

It will be interesting to read the first draft screenplay. You can sort of see how many of the elements in the film may have started as a direct Alien prequel but then were re-written to be their own thing.

Oh I thought that was you... don't know why.

Anyway, it's a pretty funny article.  They basically take the piss out of all the flaws but because Empire is a respected mag they do it in a tongue in cheek respectful way so as not to piss of Ridley.

It would have been really, the ship in Alien is clearly a lot older, the pilot is much bigger and the ship's interior is very different.

Janek fills Vickers in? - isn't the movie already R rated? something odd about some of the titles - like it's too good to be true - the engineer speaks?, seems almoat like a combination of wishful thinking and leaked concept details..

As much as I hated the film, I'm curious to see how it could have played out and if there's any hope of patching it up - it's just a shame that they dress differently every time they leave the ship.

Hopefully there's a lot of content in good condition. 5 minutes and change seems like a long runtime for a deleted scene - maybe those are a hyrid of deleted and existing footage?

I remain hopeful yet skeptical.

I have no idea why the film was R-rated in the first place (unless R stands for rubbish).

The gore and horror in the film are pretty intense. I'd say it was reasonable to rate it R.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Walking out I thought it was a pretty soft R too, but seeing it again since there's just enough gore and gruesome things to make it R. Ridley Scott or someone involved said the big split between PG-13 and R was the c-section scene, it would have had to have been cut down massively, almost to the point where it no longer was in the film, plus a few other scenes would have had to have been trimmed down (Fiefeld, Holloway being torched). I've heard that when they were filming they made in such a way that a PG-13 would be possible, like Die Hard 4 did, but opposite of that movie they decided to go dark rather than go for the money. The film looks poised to walk away with a $350 million worldwide theater gross, which is damn outstanding for an R-rated film like this, which I guess is why Prometheus 2 is in development.

If only the film was as good as these vignettes.
