Jimbo,

The new scene also has this little dialogue:

- Search "your" feelings Lord Vader. "You" will know it to be true. He could destroy us.

This basically gives it away that Vader is indeed Anakin Skywalker. Why else would Vader search his "own" feeling about this??

Master Sifo-Dyas,

Here´s an earlier post by me. I would say it´s impossible not knowing the real deal about Vader/Anakin after the 2004 edition. It´s pretty much spelled out for you!

Hmm... ok, you've got a point there. Yet, I'd still say to the average first-time-viewer this won't be anything more than a hint. In my book that line doesn't blatantly give it away. It is more revealing than the old dialogue though.

To be honest I still would have preferred if they just had put Ian McDiarmid in there without changing any dialogue at all. There really was no need to hint at this some more. Oh well, we'll have to wait and watch it to be sure how it'll come across I suppose.

George probably figures now that Revenge of the Sith will reveal this long before there is no longer any surprise so there is no reason no to be more detailed. Also it is meant for all six movies to be watched in order.

- And what do we have then? I big, long and silly saga full of nothing but predictable storytelling for kids with the audience told everything at least twice. No surprises, no revelations, nothing! Just a big bore with "state of the art" special effects. Come on peepz, the Vader revelation was one of THE most shocking in cinema history, and now he´s messing that up. Let me tell you something. As a young boy and later a teenager drinking up everything that was Star Wars I always thought the legendary and mysterios backstory to those movies was so cool and ofcourse thought it would be great if Lucas went back and finished those. But as time went I saw that Lucas had lost his touch and that script he wrote is dull and has no plot twists at all (all around him he has "yes people" who seem to like "everything" he says and does - no one will disagree with him). Ther are no new likeable characters and some incredibly wooden and unrealistic dialogue (he should definitely have let others direct Episodes II & III like before). In the original trilogy we had some great chemistry between the rogue smuggler Han and the cute but feisty Leia, the young and exiting Luke Skywalker, the wise old and noble Obi Wan, the smooth (and shaky) Lando Calrissian, the mighty Chewbacca, those lovable droids of course and THE man himself Darth Vader! What we have now is some winy spoilt little brat of an Anakin trying so hard to show us his "evil" side, an Obi Wan in McGregor that is so desperatly trying to imitate old Alec Guinness (failing badly might I add), Natalie Portman hugely boring and drab as Padme and on hell of a predictible storyline. I tell you, Lucas has made a real mess of things here... let´s hope he redeems himself and the Star Wars legacy by producing a brilliant Episode III (the one episode that REALLY NEEDS to connect well to the old trilogy!). At least some saving grace...

Oh and there´s one more thing (for now). Since we all know and see what happens to Luke and Leia in Ep.III and who their parents are. Then one important revelation in Return Of The Jedi is destroyed. The scene where Obi Wan reveals to Luke that his twinsister is Leia (and the following scene with Luke and Leia in the forest). How´s that for ruining yet another surprise? And another pivotal scene destroyed is when Yoda says in ESB "No there is another". Well people watching the saga in numerical (idiotproof) order will have absolutely no problem whatsoever figuring out who that other one is. That´s Luke "twinsister" ofcourse, for crying out loud! And one more thing (I promise I´ll stop it after this). The scene with Yoda in ROTJ when he finally confirms that Vader is infact Luke´s father, well everybody knows that already and Yoda´s part in the story there takes a huge knocking because of this. Yep Lucas is a real genius, he´s creating more problems than solutions with those silly prequels!

Rebalscum how many times do I have to tell people not to diss Natalie Portman. She is beautiful and brilliant. Theres plenty unexpected. When we first meet Anakin he is as innocent as can be. If you never saw the original trilogy you could never guess that he could grow up to be so evil. No doubt the prequal trilogy removes some of the original trilogys surprises when watched all at once. Still it gives the saga a complete storyline. Just as watching the originals first removes most of the prequals surprises. If you watch all six movies in a row it will have its surprises.

We´ve known all along that Anakin was ones a good person and that he would revert to the sinister and evil Darth Vader, who´s pretty much the darkest thing in the Star Wars universe. There is nothing in the first two movies that has been shocking or surprising. That´s because everything is known. Lucas is just filming a story that pretty much every Star Wars fan knows about. And in the process he´s ruining his earlier and much better trilogy of movies.

- Tell me Jimbo, what surprises are there for people watching the saga in numerical order? Let´s hear it!

And yes ofcourse Natalie is beautiful but she is a drab character none the less. Compared to Carrie Fisher´s Leia, there´s a HUGE difference in depth of character and likeability. One cannot just focus on how beautiful someone is, they have to bring something to the storyline and the films as a whole.

OMG!!!! I have found an Ally! Rebelscum, I think you are the ONLY person I have found so far that thinks, like I do, that Lucas is messing the whole Vader's reveal on Bespin up! I've posted god knows how many times how much I despise the fact that "FANBOYS" & I use that term loosely want to see Vader created in Episode 3, from the spoilers it seems this might happen........who knows?

I'm not gonna reitterate my ramblings but suffice to say, RebelScum, I'll fight the good fight with you

im against GL making the prequels altogether so im with you guys too!!!
lol

as for what i would keep...
if i had to that is... would prolly be just some of the lightsaber effect changes in ANH...

and i would be happy with that...
everything else can go...

Yes, but don't you think the prequels would better work as a trilogy that does not take away any of the surprises of the 'sequels'? I mean, on one hand they did not include the 'Hyperspace Lines' when prequel ships jump to hyperspace as 'to not spoil the surprise in the original films', yet they have no problems spoiling the Vader/Anakin surprise. To me that's highly contradicting, and leaves the impression the storyline is a lot less important than the SFX.

Sometimes I believe it's not really George Lucas making all these odd decisions but special effect junkies at ILM that are drunk from all the technological toys available to them, that kinda make the whole thing 'SFX biased' by indirectly influencing him with tons of 'suggestions'.

As a result, the two trilogies are like a jigsaw puzzle with overlapping peaces, imho.

Seems we could be starting a rebel alliance here folks! Against the evil empire!! he he...

The only things I wish Lucas had settled for change-wise back in 1997 was:

- 1. Fixing matte lines (Hoth battle, Rancor monster etc.) and boxes around ships, that sort of stuff.

- 2. Cleaning up the films, colorbalancing and transferring them to digital so they can be preserved.

- 3. He might just as well have added that Biggs scene on Yavin, it works ok for me.

- 4. Some of the saber effects could use a little touch up escpecially Luke´s on the Falcon and in the Vader/Obi Wan duel.

- 5. And finally some doors opening/closing could also use some smoothing out.

That´s about it. I wouldn´t have added any GC shots (the films look great as they are) and certainly wouldn´t have changed characters and storyline!! Lucas is absolutely clueless!

i still believe if you consider the PT Star Wars... then the only real way to watch it is the OT first... and then the PT...
therefore nothing is spoiled in the OT...
but you still get all the eye candy and nostalgia in the PT...
ie. seeing Boba Fett as a kid... and all that other crap..

just my two cents

Well, sure. If you watch the films in order of release everything is fine. I'm just intrigued by the fact that it doesn't work equally well watching them the other way round (which is what Lucas originally had in mind when he was starting his work on the prequels).

i never thought it was going to work out that way...
after all this is Lucas were talking about here...

i've got one word that will sum up GL & all thse changes to the OT..........................

"BOREDOM"

The guy has more money than he can possibly know what to do with, his obsession with new technology & the vst sums of cash he has available to invest in said technology just allows the creator to become bored and tinker as & when he sees fit!

I´m just amazed that Lucas and his "yes men" actually don´t realise the damage they are doing to the original trilogy and ofcourse the saga as a whole. They HAVE to know that future generations WILL most likely watch the movies in numerical order and what have they got there, a big storytelling mess imho! It works better to watch them by release since that keeps most of the surprises and drama structure. But I seriously doubt many viewers in the future will figure that out.

The saga is meant to be watched in order. Personally when Revenge of the Sith is released on DVD I can't wait to have a marathon and watch all 6 movies and the Clone Wars cartoons in there story order.

clone wars cartoons i dont consider star wars since they are cartoons...
they have nothing to do with the Star Wars trilogy...

second if you watch the prequel trilogy first... i still believe it will give away the identity of Darth Vader...
i mean you dont have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that Anakin becomes Vader...
with all the foreshadowing done in AOTC on top of the "im gonna be the most powerful jedi ever" speech.... thats enough to ruin it right there..
plus they're still gonna be giving clues in ROTS...
i still believe they should be watched in their order of release as well...
thats the way im gonna watch them...

I agree Luke, the prequals have been made knowing that everyone is familiar with the events of the original trilogy, In the unlikely event that someone who had never seen any of the films was to sit down and watch all 6 in their correct episodical order, the events in episode three would ruin any of the surprises and revelations revealed in episodes 4-6, but at least that way the series will start off crap, have an amazingly good middle section and a bad ending.

I personally like the Clone Wars cartoons. In my opinion they are Episode 2.5.

I didn't think I'd like them at first, but even with their unrealistic, stylized action, they grew on me. I figure they would just about qualify for being called Episode 2 1/2.

well i know Lucas wants us to watch them 1 - 6....
but would it really hurt to watch them 4,5,6,1,2,3?

i mean jimbo that's how you've seen the movies so far... and you love them!
so does it hurt to watch them this way?

Yeah but I like watching stuff in order. Watching them 4,5,6,1,2,3 would be like going to the half way point of a movie and then watching the first half after. It isn't right.
