Oh sweet Jesus.  Here it comes.

Project Threepio (Star Wars OOT subtitles)

Yay!

Does that mean it is finished?

This redshirt is by far worse than Hayden Christensen in ROTJ. Scrap the whole project, forever, we failed...

Author

Dafuq is that red shirt thing?

Please bear with me if I tend to get too excited about anything or say too much, I have issues.

Yeah - how/why would they do that? I mean really, does that change the film that much? Or was it intentional...

Author

NOTHING's worse than Christensen in ROTJ.

That's actually one of the changes I don't care about :-) But it IS annoying to find out NOW that they changed even more things

Author
Time

Yeah, I'm confident that there will be more changes discovered. This project would never be finished if I wanted to do everything.

Anyway, I muxed the x264 stream to MKV and everything seems ok on my computer. I will test on my BD Player later today.

BTW. does anyone know how to extract chapters from a mpls file to something compatible with MKV?

You can get the chapter times from the .mpls file under TSMuxer and then (I haven't tried this) add them using MKVMergeGUI under 'Chapter Editor'.

That's right.  In tsmuxer, you check the custom chapters radio button under the Blu-ray tab and then import the mpls.  Alternatively, eac3to can generate a text file for the chapters from the playlist and if you go to mkvmerge's chapter editor and load that text file, it seems to import the times successfully.

I am attempting to sync the Scofield theatrical recording with the GOUT audio, for the Despecialized BD, but I don't  know how to render a lossless audio in Vegas Pro 10.

I usually take the eac3to route for chapters, plus I use Chapter Grabber to get chapter titles.

Cool, I'll try that :-)

Anyway, I tested the MKV on my TV and it works and looks beautiful! I haven't watched the whole thing yet, which is something I definitely want to do before release but I was very happy with what I saw so far. There are of course still some moments that make me cringe a little but there really wasn't any more I could have done with the available sources.

Also, and I'm gonna say this now and repeat it in the future: !!! There were four different workprint versions; everyone had a chance to spot problems before the release! So once released, that will be the final version, at least until there is a better source for the OOT and I'm able to do this in 1080p, in which case I would be starting from scratch anyway, so if you find any mistakes or problems, please keep them in private messages! The only effect it can have to publicly post about a mistake or problem you found is that you'll ruin (or at least worsen) the experience for someone who might not have noticed it. !!!

Good news! I can't wait for it.

May I ask how big the MKV file is so far?

For extracting the chapter files from the mpls file you could also use MeGUI. In fact it is a gui for eac3to and many other tools. It is like the swiss army knive for x264 and audio encodings and can also mux to AVCHD, MKV and MP4.

That's great news, Harmy.  Can't wait to see the final product!

The MKV should be about 13GB in size without audio steams.

No steams for me.  It wreaks havoc on the electronics!  :)

Personally, I prefer steamy audio in my movies. Ooh baby...

There's an awful lot of moisture in here.

Harmy, what formats will be available? I understand there Will be a Blu-ray and a mkv, and I guess a DVD9 AVCHD as well as a DVD5. Am I right?

Correct. The MKV will be first and the AVCHD will follow shortly after (well, I guess a week or two). I'll leave the SD DVD to Chewtobacca as usual, so that'll be up to him and with the BD I'm planning to take my sweet time, because I want to make some cool bonus features and stuff but I need to study for exams at the beginning of September, so the BD won't be available till after that.

Very good, Harmy!  I'll definitely take the MKV to hold me over on my HD monitor until the BD comes.  Are you planning a "making of" kind of thing?  Or perhaps a "DE-making of" kind of thing?  I would be very interested to see stuff like that.

As I said before, I have a very fast fiber-optic connection and I have no problem committing maximum bandwidth to sharing the MKV, or any files associated with it.  Just PM me if you like.

Looking forward to seeing this!

Thanks for the answer. So I think I'll have to wait til September, when I'll be resuming my biology studies. Of course I'll take the mkv to wait til then.
