you know, it's as if Lucas is trying to erase himself from the past with all these special editions of his films that are coming out. And isn't there supposed to be a theater release of this film?

I have a great LD transfer of the film on DVD-if anyone is interested in seeing it, PM me. It also has the original short film the movie was based on.

Is it actually on a DVD or is it on a file on your computer that was ripped from it or what exactly is it? Is there any chance of it being made into a torrent file? Because we have torrents of the original trilogy, now it would awesome to get a torrent of the original THX 1138 going around.

I'm hoping to see the original version before the DVD comes out. When it does come out, I plan to possibly buy it (and I agree that the changes in this one seem more like actual improvements like making things more open rather than just a CGI test like the Special Editions were) but I really want to see the original version of it first.

I'm not sure what I'll do... Watch the original one? The new one? Damn I HATE when movies have more than one version, I never know what to watch!

I'd say, if possible, start with the original and then move along the video food chain.

It is burned onto a DVD from LD. I don't have the ability to seed a torrent, so anyone interested in doing so should PM me.

Now I've got a question about the DVD - is it going to be just the Director's Cut or is the theatrical edition going to be released as well? Because there are two different editions of the DVD over at amazon.com and one reviewer there said that both versions are being released and then I just read someone else say pretty much the same thing at imdb.com. So I'm wondering, does anybody know whether both versions are being released? I don't want to get my hopes up, but I can't help it.

If not, that's too bad. I'll have to find other ways to get the original version. If so, then thank you, Lucas! (And why don't you do the same for Star Wars?) He'll definitely get back a lot of the respect I lost for him if turns out both versions are released.

The 2 versions are the same edit, the new director's cut. The only difference is that one is a 1 disc release, and the other is a 2 disc collector's edition with different artwork (shaved head with the eartag). If you want the original version on DVD, PM or email me.

Oh, that's too bad. I was really hoping Lucas had put out both versions. I wonder where those two people got that info about both versions being available.

I'm still looking around at various BitTorrent sites to see if anybody has uploaded a torrent file of the original version. If not, I'll consider getting it from you like you offered.

I would be more than happy to seed a DVD of the THX 1138 laserdisc. I will be ready to do so probably in about a week. I am currently working on the Blade Runner Criterion LD DVD.

What do you mean there's no ice? I gotta drink this coffee hot?!

I've been looking hard for any torrents of THX-1138, I even posted a request at the torrentbox.com forums, but haven't had any luck yet. It would be really great if you could do that!

You could probably get a copy from TR47. He said he has a DVD rip of the Laserdisc. He offered to send it to me, but I've never really bought/received stuff from individual people on the Internet (and somehow I highly doubt my parents would actually support me getting a bootleg DVD off someone I don't even know from the Internet

)

I went in to rent the original THX-1138 today (never seen it before) and the clerk tried to dissuade me, telling me that iy was "15 years old" and had "bad picture quality." He also said to wait for the new DVD which he thought would be much better.

Needless to say I rented the VHS

I got an email but he said he needed to scrounge up $10 first to get the 2 discs he wanted.
