Strange issue here. Downloaded the BD25 version from binsearch.info. Everything downloaded ok, and repaired ok...however, when the extraction occurs, I get a bad CRC error on one of the .rar files. Tried WinRAR and IZarc to extract. Both failed.

The funny thing with WinRAR however, is that I can stop the extraction at around 70% as the 00005.m2ts has finished extracting...copy it out of the folder, and play it before it fails. The only problem with this is that it has no timestamp on it, so I can only play it linearly, without the ability to jump around, fast forward, etc...

What episode? Someone downloaded Ep 2 and had a similar issue, but successfully repaired it by opening the first vol PAR2 file instead of the main PAR2 file in MultiPar (NOT QuickPar). You might want to give that a try to see if it resolves your problem.

Episode 3...the one you just recently posted. I thought that I could just be sneaky and convert it to a .mkv, but it hangs around the 1:03:00 mark. I'll try the suggestion you posted.

Just for reference WinRAR is giving a bad CRC error on part 023. Only error I'm getting...

Hi, same problem here with Episode 3. I downloaded the BD25 version. Repair is ok with the par files, but I got a bad crc error when I try to unrar the files.

I just double checked and the original RAR is corrupt. Must have happened while archiving it up. Never had that happen before. Re-creating that file and will get it up to usenet and RS in a bit. Sorry about that guys!

Done, though it's the SD DVD5 versions. (I no longer have the AVCHD on my system and don't really want to download all three from usenet. I'm close to my max bandwidth this month.)

Just watched through the entire trilogy, and I have to say that this really is an achievement. You found a good movie hiding inside Phantom Menace, and a borderline really good movie hiding in Revenge of the Sith. Unfortunately, all that was hiding underneath Attack of the Clones was a slightly less bad movie, but you can only do so much as an editor.

Aside from a few slightly jarring cuts in the music, Phantom Menace's awkward ending (which legitimately jump-scared me when I got to it), and the blockade run's somewhat frenetic editing it was incredibly good.

Out of curiosity, what song is playing in the second half of the trailer? It sounds familiar but I can't quite place it.

Now if people talk about the prequels, I can finally have something to add that isn't just "I hated them". Thanks for that.

I'm here to kick ass and watch Star Wars, and I'm all out of ass.

That final music cut... what version of TPM did you watch? Version 1 (93 min) or Version 2 (89 min)? With Version 2 I tweaked it a bit to make it a little less jarring by increasing the music to try and blend the volume levels a bit. But, in all honesty, I don't think it's possible to make it 100% fluid since the music isn't designed to go together naturally right there.

The music is by Clint Mansell. The score itself was for Requiem for a Dream, but this fully orchestrated version was done, I think, for the original Two Towers preview. That might be where you've heard it.

You made those movies so much better! Absolutely versions I'd show to a Star Wars newbie, in chronological order :) Well done!

So I haven't made it through these films yet. But from what I hear, they're fantastic, and you make it seem like Anakin dies, helping to preserve the mystery. But one problem remains in continuity, and I can only think of one way to fix it: Obi-wan says Vader was a pupil of his till he turned to evil in ANH to Luke. The only way to fix this is to edit out that line from ANH. So my question is: are you planning on editing the OT as well? I know you made a minor edit of ROTJ, but are you going to do anything more drastic with the whole trilogy?

Watched all 3 this weekend, Awesome job thunderclap, Its funny on some of the cuts cause my daughters always watch Star Wars with me and they both said what happened to some of the kissing, were is R2D2 and C3PO and what about the funny stuff Jar Jar does, I just laughed.

Its funny how when you see a movie as it is when it comes out in theaters how you like it that way, kinda like us here, we love the Original Trilogy the way it was in theaters so we have amazing people here that edit it out of George Lucas remade versions. My daughters saw the first 3 episodes in the theater and like them that way, of course they are girls(12 & 14), but I like thunderclaps versions better myself. Great job once again thunderclap.

Thank you for the kind words, and I'm happy you enjoyed them.

I look forward to showing these to my sons when they're older (currently 3 and 1). Thankfully, I can stop the damage before it's done with Lucas's version. :)

EDITED to be more constructive.

After watching Harmy's new version of Star Wars, followed by the first versions of ESB and ROTJ, my wife insisted we watch the prequels too. I protested, but gave in. I glanced to see which fan edits of the prequel trilogy were rated highly. I had seen L8wrtr's edit of TPM in the past, so I decided to give yours a try.

I've only seen TPM so far, though I briefly scanned II and III and will watch them in full next. While I don't think it's perfect, I can honestly say I had never had such a painless viewing of TPM before. The film blew past quickly, with everything critical to episodes II and III remaining. I do support the idea of removing R2-D2 and C-3PO from the prequels as much as possible, if not totally. 3PO has no business on Tatooine prior to ANH, IMHO. I understand recoloring R2 is impractical, though I believe it would have to be done to really sell the concept that this is a different droid. Threepio could be redubbed, when he appears in II and III. He could still be personably similar to the 3PO we know from the OT (given his onscreen mannerisms and body language), yet different enough to distinguish him. He could even identify himself with a new name, and identify R2 with a new name too.

I second the opinion that removing Anakin's involvement in the final battle seems strange. Anakin is painted as being the [Plinkett Voice] protagonist [/Plinkett Voice] and it seems strange to have him be next to the Jedi in the midst of danger one moment, and be absent the next. (Did he die?) I'd suggest either including Anakin in the film's climax, or downplay him as a main character until Episode II. If I could make another suggestion, showing some close-ups of R2 during the final battle would help prevent it from looking like a "mystery pilot" that never gets revealed later.

My only other complaint, and unfortunately both HD sets of prequel trilogy fan edits retain these, surrounds the bound up issues of Anakin's virgin birth and the chosen one prophecy. I don't really need to say much about these.

You did well to make Obi-Wan seem more jealous of Anakin, and to take him as an apprentice himself. It makes him more responsible for his fall later, which is something Obi-Wan seems remorseful about in ROTJ. It also gives us less reason to view Obi-Wan as annoyed at Anakin in AOTC, since he's not a horrible kid that he was obliged to train.

That being said, I really did enjoy the film. The pacing and focus makes this film much more... enjoyable. There are very few things about it that I would change. If I can, I should like to finally find a decent program and gain the skill needed to edit from this HD source and merely make a few small changes to your edit so that I could have a version I could really be happy about.

Tremendous job! It's really a tough call between your edit and L8wrtr's. Yours is bolder, though I think his sits more securely by being more conservative.

I wonder if you could be even more bolder by combining the Fall of the Jedi trilogy into a 2-hour Fall of the Jedi standalone film. I'd also think you'd do a masterful job at a more rigorous ROTJ edit.

I shall report back once I've seen episodes II and III, but know that I enjoyed this one very much.

It's frustrating to want to mix and match preferred prequel fan edits, since most have minor changes that conflict with one another.

Wow. What a terrific review. Thank you for your thoughts Hal.

I want to only address one comment you made as I think your review speaks for itself.

I'm in the minority, I know, but I love the conversation and insinuation between Palpatine and Anakin during the opera scene. The idea that Darth Plagous (sic?) or Palpatine himself "created" Anakin works for me, and makes him much more manipulative and a much greater threat than anyone guessed. I knew I wanted this conversation left untouched in edit, so that is why I left the "virgin birth" alone in Ep 1.

That's cool, and I'll admit that the virgin birth in isolation isn't *so* bad without the prophecy stuff making more out of it.

Also, about the final space battle, I wonder if there is a video game or some other source out there to lift dialogue from to create some "chatter" from the mystery pilot. He could say something like, "I'm going in... target acquired... it's a hit!" or something along those lines. Might help sell the idea. I do like the idea, as it helps shift the role of protagonist for Episode I to Obi-Wan (and Qui-Gon). Anakin can take over later in Episodes II and III.

Again, I enjoyed this edit more than I have any other, and look forward to seeing II and III when my wife and I get the chance.

I haven't watched your edit yet but I'm glad you feel that way about that issue. Palpatine's my favourite character and the implication that he and Plagueis created Anakin is just awesome to me.

BTW if anyone else is a big Palpatine fan, the book Darth Plagueis is a good read.
