I wouldn't be surprised if he merely meant the third level. It's a very hard game. Instead of the very different American release of Super Mario Bros. 2 where you can choose between 4 characters with various powers in a somewhat Arabesque world, picking up and throwing veggies and all that, it's much more similar to the first game. You bust bricks and jump on goombas. You can choose between Mario and Luigi, who are actually slightly different in that Luigi can jump higher and farther than Mario, but has significantly reduced traction, often sliding off the narrow platforms. Super Mario Bros. is a challenging game IMO. The Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2 is simply nigh impossible...now that I wrote all that, I think it was released in Super Mario All Stars for SNES as The Lost Levels, but with cosmetic and other minor differences. Still, if you're up for a challenge, you should give it a try.
