if we were REALLY CRAZY, (as if we aren't already),

we would get it printed back to 35mm film..

Print it to 16mm and then Puggo can preserve it @_@

...and then someone will video bootleg it.

...and that bootleg will be duplicated by the VHS traders.

I kneu this we're tha ways the callours should am:

Oh my God, look at those wonderfully saturated 70's hues. What bulb was this projected with?

The typical 70's disco movie theater set-up, you know the spinning multi-light and disco ball reflector lens.

That looks really good actually. (ignoring the damage to the frame and the redness)
Are there any more 720p clips out there?

edit: that is any more besides the "trailer"

i'll be posting selected scenes from this 11 minute reel

periodically. but it's mostly examples of the cleaning

and recoloring process tests.

our lpp version doesn't need too many color tweaks,

just cleanup.

this is just for a behind the scenes look at it.

What would be really interesting is to see a comparison video of before/after filmguard.

Coming up soon? :)

They had one of those I think, let me see if I can find it.

edit: appears those were only "test" clips and not star wars.

I'm looking forward to any and all HD clips (the quality of the trash compactor clip is impressive even with the redness), -1. I'm new to posting on the forum and am astounded at the level of work being done here...and very excited about it too.

here's another test clip with one of my

favorite scenes, where the stormtrooper

on the right bumps his head. ha ha

anyways, don't be too impressed by these.

the other versions we have are way better

and much cleaner. these were just simple

proofs of concepts to play around with.

Hehe I always loved that stormtrooper hitting his head.
Anyway I love how sharp those shots are, if the non "play" versions are better than that even as you claim we should have a pretty damn good version of the movie by the end of all this.

One little question: I was rereading the entire thread, looks like you had episode 5 but it was too damaged to scan in? Or did you obtain another?

episode 5 is safely transferred.

however, there might be some improvements

coming. we'll see. i'm not involved with that.

also, there are some solid leads for return of

the jedi.

That's great news, keep us informed on these two! Empire is my favorite as I was 6 when I saw it in 1980 and it began my star wars obsession.  And though Jedi isn't most people's favorite of the trilogy, it is, in my opinion, the one that was most grievously wounded by the special edition hacks. The space battle at the end and Luke's duel with Vader are pinnacle moments of the trilogy that deserve the full treatment.

Absolutely horrible.  And the new "dance" number in Jabba's palace took any seriousness and realism out of that entire sequence.  Don't get me started, I get all riled up just thinking about it :)

LOVE these clips - even unfixed they just have that natural filmic look. A breath of fresh air after artificially sharpened blurays, or DNR smeared DVDs, or low res LD captures.

The untreated clips give Star Wars a delightful kind of grindhouse feel too (I'm sure somebody else mentioned a while back too). Would love to see an unfixed edition of the film released at some point, in addition to the restored version. Say just an 8GB version for fun...

As always, amazing work!
