Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released) — Page 194

Mines set to MadVR. Is this wrong? Can anyone tell me what it should be set to?

MadVR is the best option qualitywise if your GPU is powerful enough to handle it. However, EVR CP should as well do the colorspace conversion just fine. The only settings that differ between optimal and default renderer settings are "Full Floating Point Processing" and "Disable Aero", which shouldn't have those kind of effects.

So the bottom frame turns orange again? Weird

Well then could someone check if this happens with the WP on their computers as well? What I'm thinking here is that maybe the problem isn't in the encoded videos but in the player settings, so maybe I could export in YUV after all and keep the file size down plus maybe cut back on rendering time of the MKV/BD video?

BTW, my MPC-HC won't play uncopressed AVI at all when I set it to Optimal Render Settings. What could be causing that?

The only thing that looked different when switching from default render settings to optimal in MPC-HC was that the chroma got shifted like half a pixel to the right.

A weird thing though, that might indicate the file itself does have the correct colors, is that when making a script like this:

DirectShowSource("Despecialized Edition v2.0 Final Workprint.mkv")

Opening it in MPC-HC and Avspmod both gives a correct color result.

When opening the file itself in MPC-HC it shows the orange-ish reds. Maybe the codec converts the color, and when using DirectShowSource in a script it bypasses that?

The UtVideo RGB file of that scene worked fine on my end. I played it back using LAV Filters with MadVR in MPC-HC. I then encoded the sample to x264 using ConverttoYV12(matrix="rec.709") and the colors stayed exactly the same, no reds that turned into orange. Here's a link. You can check it yourselves.

Harmy, if you want render said scene to UtVideo YUV420, upload it and I'll check if everything is fine.

Usually decoders decide which colorspace to use based on the resolution of the video, which should be fine. So I think the renderer messes something up here.

Perhaps a PM to Adywan about codecs and render settings could be worth while?

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

So here are two files, one is the Leia shot encoded with UT Video YUV420 and the other with Lagarith YV12 - they both do the same thing as the WP in my MPC-HC; play with orange reds with default settings and correctly with optimal.

So I guess only RGB files don't play on optimal.

Also, I usually use the optimal setting, because many videos play with greyish blacks when I use the default settings.

Sorry guys, guess I mixed it up completely. All your lossless files display orange reds on my setup Harmy. Only the encoded video for which I forced a color space conversion in avisynth is fine, so your final encode should be as well. I have really no idea why all that happens. Guess I have to do some tests later on.

Harmy, is it too late for comments on the MKV?

So I should definitely render the AVI in RGB then?

As long as we can't fix this weird problem, yes.

EDIT: Once you did that, we could render the avisynth script that I have to Ut Video YUV first using VirtualDub. This way you'd have a lossless file with correct frame rate, correct colorspace at a smaller size.

OK. Comments on the MKV.

0:02:55:19 - At center top, there's a strangle purple reflection on the wall. It's probably supposed to come from the red and blue lights, but it looks overexposed and weird.

0:03:25:10, 0:03:28:13, and 0:03:30:09 - More weird purple reflections.

1:24:49 - "I shall become..." Looks like this one shot is still pink or purple shifted.

1:30:02 - Slight salmon tint on the Falcon.

1:36:03 - Outside the Yavin temple, there's a black horizontal line above Han's head. Looks like some kind of misaligned matte seam.

1:38:20 - YES. The jaggies on the X-Wing are gone. HARMY BE PRAISED!

1:45:46 - Pink shift on red leader.

1:49:25 - Looks too dark, especially the underside of the Falcon (maybe due to GOUT).

THANKS!

00:30:04 - The picture seems to be more inconstant than it was in DeEd 1.0. Looks like automatic focusing of a camera.

It looks like you can't download from ulozto as a free user anymore :-(

Well it says "server overload" so it will probably work later but yeah, uloz.to is getting shittier an shittier. I think I'll look into setting up a torrent for the release of the final version. I can do that now that I'm at home for the holiday but I may need some help :-)

Please use rapidshare, netload or filefactory for the final version.

Thanks.

@Erik: Yeah, most of these I already noticed and fixed those that I could. As to the jaggies on the x-wing, I ended up using Puggo Grande for the wings and then smoothly transitioning to 2D cut out animation.

Was the puggo grande used for the new alderan explosion as well?

Brilliant.

I was impressed by the color choice, very nice

Hi.

I received the GOUT in my mail yesterday, this was just to legalizing it.

Also today I prepared for the despecialized edition 2.0 and bought blank Blu-Rays on Amazon.

And browsing youtube for critics about the Blu-Ray edition changes, I found this video which is interesting because it's the impressions of a grown up man who watched Star Wars for the first time ever on Blu-Ray. Funny thing is that apart for Episode 2, he thinks just like me, who watched the first movie about 20 years ago. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPEA3HqYiJ8

These were my 2 cents of the day.

"Let's face it, the Ewoks sucked, dude" -Hurley, Lost 5x13-Some like it Hoth.

Please bear with me if I tend to get too excited about anything or say too much, I have issues.

Won't comment on the ethical implications. But just because you own the gout it doesn't mean that you having this is "legal". It's just a nice gesture basicly.

You should also buy the blu-rays since that's the primary source.
