A New Star Wars Prequel Trilogy Supertrailer!

Hello everyone! This is infact my first post on this site.

I wanted to share with all you great fans of Star Wars this Prequel Trilogy Supertrailer which I made from the Blu-ray Boxset of Star Wars using Final Cut Pro primarily for video and sound editing.

With the new Batman, Dark Knight Rises trailer soundtrack, my mind exploded with ideas of what I could make for Star Wars as a trailer.

Here's the video (do please check out my other Star Wars videos too! Like the Anakin and Padme Music Video and the Episode I Trailer I've made (They're all in 1080p too! :) )). Also do rate, comment and subscribe!! Thanks and Enjoy! :)

I have at least another 2 or 3 Star Wars vids coming soon on youtube, and with enough demand I'll be making more of similar videos even for other movies :).

Thanks

hey jedi mehdi!

a really good first trailer! i really enjoyed it.

visually it works, you have got good movement, but it does seem a bit 'general' at the moment as far as message is concerned. have you considered perhaps re-cutting it to focus on just one part of the story?

you might want to cut back on the intense fighting in the latter half, and reintroduce more character moments later on.

Thanks Ben, I'm glad you liked it! :), (that is your name right? Ben?)

I see what you mean by being quite general. I did intend it to be that way.

I actually made around a page of quotes which I thought would be good for the trailer, but I only ended using 4 or so...

The thing is, from what I believe and understand from trailers, is that a trailer is not supposed to 'summarise' the story of a movie, but only to drop hints of what the movie is supposed to be about. And a teaser should be a more extreme version of that in giving little or almost no story at all (its supposed to 'tease' hence the name teaser). If you look at the official trailers, although they're very well made as videos, they are terrible as trailers!! Because they give the whole story away with the biggest spoiler quotes and scenes etc. I mean if you look at the Episode III one, they show everything of how Palpatine tries to seduce Anakin in turning to the dark side, how the clones turn on the jedi, all that etc. ... (yes Obi-wan in 'A New Hope' tells Luke of how his young Appentice 'Darth Vader' did all this, but still...) its too elaborate on the storyline. It basically summarises the whole film even though for the prequels it might seem obvious what happens with what we know to be in episodes 4, 5 and 6.

This is actually not my first trailer. My first is one I made for Episode I. Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aX7iSQ14yns&feature=plcp

Yeah, there is a bit of a difference between sending a message, and giving the show away.

Such as an anakin themed trailer might suggest the potential for emotional turmoil, without revealing that he turns to the darkside etc. Its about introducing the threads of a story. A teaser trailer however is much more abstract, its either throwing people off the threads, or just introducing an abstract concept.

The Dark Knight Rises trailer for instance plays on defeat and.. well... rising. The original Dark Knight Rises teaser introduced the idea that it would reference Batman's past with the league of shadows. The earlier Dark Knight teasers were literally just 'look its the joker!'.

My other trailers that are on youtube and some not yet uploaded but in my iMovie and Final Cut List of Projects develop better on storyline in this way.

I did try to show rising and falling simultaneously in parallel particularly towards the end at the climax of all the music; Both the Rise of Palpatine to power and the Empire, and the fall of Anakin as a Hero, how Palpatine seduces Anakin and his close relations to him. Also his relation to Padme from childhood and their love eventually. I just looked at my video again and think I forgot to establish any connection on Anakin's relation with Obi-wan or Qui-gon :/, which is a slight flaw perhaps!

I think most of the ideas are fairly well developed for how its turned out though generally, what do you think? Also what do you mean by 'Anakin themed trailer?' Do you simply mean a trailer with Anakin's theme?? I already have an 'Anakin and Padme' music video of all their romances with that soundtrack...

By the way folks, I'll be uploading and posting an amended version soon I think on this trailer on youtube. And also a silent version just like the Dark Knight Rises trailer for the second half... :). The soundtrack will be a combination of 2 different versions of the same soundtrack, which I mixed together.

oh no sorry, i just threw anakin out there as an example. definitly not the anakin theme music, that would be horrible.

would it be possible to use the piano opening from the trailer, and mix it with a star wars piece later on enstead of the batman theme? im not sure if there are any suitable pieces, or any with similar instruments that would fit?
