Does anyone have this mammoth release!?

Hey peepz,

Just stumbled across this INCREDIBLE release from back in 1995, called "The Executor Box Set". Is there anybody out there who has this package? This is some amazing stuff with about 5 hours of "making of" material, complete scripts for all three movies, the THX mastered widescreen laserdisc transfers on VHS and all sorts of collectors goodies (and I particulary like the packaging artwork, really minimal and cool). Now I hope someone out there is transferring this stuff to DVD cause this has to be preserved and enjoyed forever. Nothing beats those original "making of" documentaries, there we get the real truth and all that hard award winning work that went into those classic moves before the time of CGI. If you have any more info on this set that is greatly appreciated, cheers!

Btw this monster of a set is going for close to 30 pounds (not much IMO) on ebay at the moment. I wouldn´t mind getting my grubs on one of these at all! ;-)

peace,

Rebelscum

The extra material has all been released before. It just was packaged all together in this set.

The scripts were at one time available in book form. The documentaries have been released on VHS and laserdisc. The trailers, interviews, and behind the scenes footage appears on the Definitive Collection laserdisc. The only thing they couldn't get on The Executor Box Set from the laserdiscs was the 400+ still photos. Luckily, all of the Definitive Collection supplemental material is now on DVD thanks to fans on this site.

It is a great looking set, though.

I bought that set when it was first released. It's my pride and joy.
It's great. I don't watch the movies just in case, but all the trailers and extra stuff is just fantastic.

Thats what you get for living in the UK.

If its £30...you should go for it.
It cost about £80 when first released!

I have this set also....it's damn impressive, although some of the documentaries are infact the 3 making of videos that had been previously released (making of star wars; from star wars to jedi; classic creatures)

It has so many different trailers & tv spots + interviews with GL & I'm sure theres some other stuff that hadn't previously been released.

It was limited to 10,000, only sold in the UK & the videos are VHS PAL format so make sure you Yankees can play these before bidding, it just wont work on an NTSC video no matter how much you fiddle with it!!

*** ok so it was 20,000 I thought it was less, then again I know only 3 other people that have this set & none of them bought it when it came out, they all bought it off eBay at prices ranging from £30 - £150!***

Actually it was limited to 20.000 copies. But that still doesn´t make it any less impressive... ;-)

Anyway, any chance some of you proud owners (Mr Freeman, HotRod or die-jarjar-die) are transferring the documentaries to DVD or have already done it? Would love to see those original "making of" documentaries. Please message me if you have some good news for me. I´m in Iceland btw and I also use the PAL system.

I have a TV Tuner card, Hauppauge WinTV Go!, well supported, I use Xawtv on Linux to cap, then encode from the resulting AVI. Never encoded to VOB though, only to VCD or MPEG-4.

My girlfriend bought this for me back when it was released. And damn its a great set!

I even got the enclosed Darth Vader certificate signed by Dave Prowse, as well as the Slave 1 photo signed by Jeremy Bulloch!

At the time these box sets where like gold dust. I witnessed one selling for £200+ at a UK auction. And until the OT DVD box set was announced the Executor Box set was selling for £120+ on ebay.

I just got the set and it's amazing! I'm so happy to have it, with all those documentaries and other extras.

Rebelscum: Unfortunately, I don't know have any equipment to transfer it to DVD. But I don't think it's hard to get hold of those documentaries somewhere else.

The supplementals are pretty much the same as the Definative LD Box Set.

Does the Definitive LD Box Set include the original Star Wars documentary from 1977?
Author

No the Definitive Edition does not have those original documentaries (at least not completely) but it does have those three interviews featured on each of the tapes in the Executor Set, with Lucas, Burti and Muren. It also has the original and re-release trailers I believe but I don´t know the exact similarities between the bonus materal on those two sets. Maybe someone who knows about this can tell us what extras they share and which are unique?

None of the documentaries are on the Definitive Collection set, just the interviews, trailers, a few featurettes, still galleries, and the godawful Lapti Nek music video (which I don't even want to attempt to watch). Too bad, really, but I still have my Making of Star Wars mail-in VHS (compliments of Corn Pops), so I can live. I really want to see From Star Wars to Jedi, though.
