I think it's her "Christian Bale Batman Voice."

Love that as a description! Yeah I understand the (contrived) reason for the voice, but it's just annoying and really obvious it isn't her.

If it had been Portman's regular voice but disguising herself with a different, more formal, accent, that would have sold the concept a lot better. The voice we got is just awful though. :-(

I believe voice quality of actors is too frequently overlooked. It's the primary means of conveying their characters.

As for TPM, it never bothered me. The voice added an unusual quality and point of interest.

NP stands out as having a particulary fine voice (since maturity-post TPM) IMO.   I've heard her speak on the bonus discs and a few other occasions and her casual speaking voice is even better than her movie voice- so it's not the work of clever sound editors.

When is this going to be done?  Is there anyway we can watch some clips?!?  Such a bummer they got taken off youtube.

Also Bob, I saw a cool edit of the Anakin dream sequence where the last shot is the final POV moment when Darth Vader's helmet clamps down on Anakin.  Adds a lot of emotional weight.  Have you considered that?

Still working on it, impostor. Between the Day job, night job, and now freelancing doing edits and effects for a few companies. Time is limited.

I'm pretty sure that dream sequence was from the Cutters edit. I agree it was well done.

My edit will not be showing Anakin going into the suit tho. I'm going a total different direction. One that I hope will payoff huge.

Gonna start reposting old clips from the Youtube days. These are from a old version of the movie, so expect some fx or audio issues. These problems are taken care of now

Absolutely fantastic. You are a true master of dialogue. I felt tension and emotion the whole way through.

You still accepting suggestions/ideas for the edit bob?

Do you have any idea of when you might finish the phantom menace? I'm just curious because I thought your clip was very well edited.

Check out my Episode I edit.

Sorry for Bad English.

Yeah. Feel free to post ideas. Alot of the edit is already locked into place. But who knows. If an idea is worth the time, I would consider adding it.

This edit is looking very promising indeed!!

Most clips I've seen, so far, I have no issues, expect for one....

In regards to making Anakin's saber color red, isn't it rather a continuity error? Being that Ben gave Luke Anakin's saber that Ben picked up, and which gives off a soft blue color?

If I'm presenting something that was already said earlier, my apologizes then and keep up the great work on all three films!

Yeah, it's been brought up before awhile ago. I dont expect anyone to read every page of the thread :) It's all taken care of.

No problamo then! I found the red edit pretty sexy, not gonna lie. Just wasn't sure if you were aiming for continuity or personal enjoyment or both (well, of course there has to be enjoyment involved, otherwise it's no fun!).

Even if having ObiWan cut Anakin down to pieces gives a lot of meaning to the circle of the saga and explains some things, in the OT Kenobi never shows any remorse to what he did to Anakin (which a true friend would feel), and he never mentions it to Luke, not even in his "final" reveal of the true story in ROTJ. On a point, lying and hiding the facts all-throughout the OT puts ObiWan in a not-very-heroic position, and rather far from what (I think) he deserves as a character.

But it's not this what I think only should be corrected in the PT, there are actually two lines from the OT that actually keep me somehow captive:

"When I left you I was but a learner..."

"I must obey my master"

I think there's still room for a twist in EPIII. What if Anakin foresees being chopped up by ObiWan, but instead, when the time comes, they swtich off their sabres and leave each other alive and well...

"You were my brother Anakin, I loved you"

"Don't make me kill you"

And they just leave each other there... then we'll come to realise that it's actually the Emperor himself who punishes his apprentices for not being mercyless and reckless. Palpatine torments Anakin in his office (if you are not planning to use the Vader hommage scene, then Anakin kneeling before Palpatine, with some FX and audio could do) until he gets all burned and ultimately ends up in the suit, and with literally a new dependancy!

Greetings!

That's a fantastic idea, Mithrandir. I don't recall anything like this coming up in the Radical Redux thread (though there is a lot to go through). If it hasn't I'd suggest pasting it there too.

Adding a different vision is also an amazing way to get rid of the existing oh-so-convenient prophetic dream of Padme's "death by pregnancy" which I've always hated as his rationale for turning as it makes turning to the dark side a calculated decision rather than a seduction.

I'm not sold on the Emperor being the one to give Anakin his injuries. I'm more than happy to assume he's suffered these between the events of both trilogies. It even still allows the interpretation of the canon 'molten pit' explanation as Obi Wan and Anakin may have battled at some point between films. It's best these things remain unseen as (as we've found out with what we got) they never do justice to our preconceptions.

This.

And while I love these ideas, I'm not sure how to make them happen.

"I must obey my master."

I've always liked the idea that it was Palpatine, not Vader's suit, keeping Vader alive.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

I always assumed that it was Palpatine keeping Vader alive for a few reasons.  For one, it's why Vader never even tried to usurp the Emperor.  For another, it makes sense of things Palps said to Anakin/Vader in turning him - "to cheat death is a power only one has achieved, but if we work together I know we can discover the secret" - well, they cheated Anakin's death all right.  That's how I've always watched the movies, with the assumption Palpatine was keeping Vader alive as much as the suit was.

"On a point, lying and hiding the facts all-throughout the OT puts ObiWan in a not-very-heroic position, and rather far from what (I think) he deserves as a character."

Obi-Wan is no hero, he was a total failure.  Both as Anakin's  master, and then as Vader's killer.  He didn't kill Vader when he had the chance, and then sat on his ass on Tattooine for 20 years waiting for some kid to do his job.  Total failure.

Also, where is that pic in TavorX's sig from?  Looks like my holiday pics but with the Empire.

Close. It's actually the 'Ebon Hawk', the ship from the RPG 'Knights of the Old Republic' from 2003.

One of the best RPGs, if not games, ever. :-)

I <3 the Ebon Hawk! And fo sho, one of the BEST games L.A./Bioware could muster up!

And yes, as Bob pointed out, my sig was just a quick grab from Google Images from a scene of "The Old Republic: Hope" trailer showing Alderaan (I just really liked how those animators rendered out the landscape of Alderaan).
