...indicating that while Nolan is done with the franchise, Bale is willing to participate in a fourth film if WB decided to take it that far (please don't).

*End potential spoiler*

Sounds like a Red Herring to me...

I forgot to respond to this.  You could be very, very right, though I  hope you are very, very wrong.  If you are correct, then it tells me that far too many cards were tipped in the marketing campaign, as the speculation has run pretty rampant at this point.  This could be an opportunity to try and save the surprise.

Fourth trailer came out today.

I have not yet watched it, but not doing so is like not taking a leak until July 20.  I have a feeling it's fantastic, but I'll let you be the judges...then you can tell me if I am an idiot for waiting to see it.

I'm going to revisit it tonight anyway and see what I think all this time later. And I still haven't seen Inception, which of course will get me ignored by some people...

You do realize that in the comics the villain you talking about come back again and again, right?    Would you really have wanted these villains to be in only one episode?

As for your last point, yes, I know that.  And that's why I have a hard time reading American comics anymore because nothing is allowed to change in any significant way.

Have you checked into either Marvel or DC recently? Marvel, overall, hasn't had a "status quo" for about 8 years. Ever since Secret War, things have been pretty topsy turvy. People are now complaining about Event Fatigue... but at least not every issue is ending on the bridge of the Enterprise.

D.C. has also been shaking things up. I don't follow them as closely, but it's clear that they can't be blamed for "the status quo above all else!" either.

Still haven't watched the final trailer, though I did break down and urinate, and since then I just can't seem to stop.  I'm not steering completely clear of the news right now, though.  I thought this was a fun article.

http://batman-news.com/2012/06/21/the-dark-knight-rises-viral-marketing-continues-with-the-gotham-observer/#!prettyPhoto

At this site, Gotham's big newspaper has some interesting stories.  I like the viral marketing campaigns that they've done for this and the last film.  What was most especially interesting to me was the horoscope, which is obviously alluding to the various characters in the film. For those Virgos among its readers:

"Someone from your past will make a surprise appearance."

I was speculating with my nephew on the film yesterday.  I really wonder if they are going to simply have flashbacks to Ra's al Ghul, or if he will somehow make an appearance.  In the comics he always perpetuated his life with his Lazarus pits.  He made a potential allusion in the first film about being "immortal" with "supernatural" methods.  But Nolan's take is clearly more realistic than the comics, but I found it strange that Nolan chose to actually kill off Batman's most dangerous nemesis (at least in terms of worldwide influence, sanity, and perpetuity) in the very first film.  Did Mr. Demon's Head survive the crash, somehow?

Yes, he did. And never fear, Nolan will explain how he did so through a series of contrived and convoluted explanations.

perhaps the horoscope is talking about Scarecrow?  I think he survived the first movie, didn't he?

^He did indeed. He even shows up in The Dark Knight where he's reduced to a glorified background character.

This sounds like a subtle indictment of all the films being contrived and convoluted. I admit that any film with a conflict usually is somewhat contrived, as the odds are usually against the good guys, but they still pull it off.  But I never felt that the Nolan Batman films were unrealistically or overly contrived.  Perhaps convoluted, but I don't see the contrived part.  Please explain.

Re: Tom Hardy

This is Tom Hardy. The film is Bronson. It and he is insane.

Of course he is in Inception which is kind of his break out hollywood role. And Nolan loves repeat business with his actors.

Hardy also has a supporting role as the chemist in the Mathew Vaughn directed Daniel Craig starring Layer Cake. Love that movie. And Hardy also played Handsome Bob in the substandard Guy Ritchie movie Rocknrolla. That's everything I've seen him in.

And as for Hathaway she's pretty decent. I'm not a huge fan of hers but I don't dislike her either. A few too many fanboys derided Nolan for casting "ugly" female leads in Holmes and Gyllenhaal, what will they make of Hathaway? He's certainly not unattractive but she does have an odd look with that huge grin in a Julia Roberts clone sort of way.

But I trust Nolan's casting. She's properly the actress out of all the reported women who read for the role, even if I'd prefer to see Eva Green or Gemma Arterton in a catsuit. Although Miss Hathaway in Brokeback Mountain in that one scene was pretty awesome.

Uh...who ever called Katie Holmes "ugly" ?!?...she was quite the "cute/it girl"/sex symbol in the 90s/early 2000s with Dawson's Creek and her topless scene from The Gift gets a huge amount of views and traffic wherever its posted...so yeah...

-Someone, someday, needs to bring back the LIGHT SIDE to Star Wars.  Has anyone else noticed striking similarites between the character of Anakin/Vader and George Lucas, or is it just me?

-It's called STAR WARS. NOT "Episode IV: A New Hope". Kids, get this straight.

-Please read the Archie Goodwin daily SW comics: Too good to be forgotten!

At the risk of sounding like a scratched record why do film makers feel the need to screw around with iconic characters (new toy sales I guess)?

When you have a guy with this shape

Since when has Superman been Man Of Textured Rubber?

^That's the trend unfortunately. To a lesser extent, even the Superman Returns had that bizarre textured look to the costuem. The new Spider-Man had it, too. I'm not so crazy about that - looks too much like body armor for my tastes - but my bigger problem is the overblown S.

I heard there might be a trailer for Man of Steel alongside Dark Knight Rises. Given my distaste for Zack Snyder, I'm not expecting much. Here's hoping the man can prove me wrong.

please tell me this isn't how Superman will look in the new movie.  Where is his red boxers?   Please tell me that this is that "Last Son of Krypton" guy from the "Reign of the Supermen"?    Please tell me that Superman himself will look more like this:

Modern audiences are too sophisticated and intellectual for silly red underwear.

Probably the last movie to have the hype that The Dark Knight Rises does was The Phantom Menace, and we know what a letdown that was.  I am trying to be extremely cautious in my reading, sticking almost entirely to headlines.  I hear that Letterman ruined the ending, though I won't learn any more about it than that.  But from what I'm reading, critics who've seen advance screenings are extremely positive about the movie.  Rotten Tomatoes has it at 97% at the present, and many call it better than The Dark Knight.  Personally for me, the one to beat is Batman Begins.  Just watched them both, and I still enjoy Begins more, though Dark Knight is still an enjoyable film.  My wife's opinion of it actually improved this time, though she too prefers the first.  Anyway, I'm rambling.  My reason for starting this post was to let everyone know that so far, most critics are impressed with the movie--we may finally have a trilogy that did not disappoint the majority on most levels.   Sure, not everything pleases everyone, but it seems that nearly everyone considers all three movies to be very well done and enjoyable.  I'm so excited, if I weren't starving at this moment, I'd probably puke.

My question has always been: Where is this Kryptonian?

well . . . for a awhile he was in a sort of heaven with his Lois Lane and others after his earth was destroyed.   Then,  he came  back and tried to recreate his earth.   When he realized his friend Alex(who was with him in the sort of heaven) was up to no good, he tried to stop him.    He stopped Alex's plan, but died in the process.   He is now in the real heaven . . . I think.
