10 hours wasn't enough to adapt A Clash of Kings.  Should have been closer to 12 or 13.  That's why this season felt so rushed, and why they changed so much around (well, Dany's story was changed because it was so fucking boring in the book - can't wait to see how they re-write Mereen).  Hell, even A Game of Thrones barely made it with 10 hours, but Clash is, while a similar length, much more dense than Game, so the extra episodes could have helped very much.

I'm very, very glad they'll be tackling A Storm of Swords over the next two seasons and not just one - now that book is significantly longer than Game or Clash, and it's even more dense than the second book, especially toward the last 1/3.

Er, right, this is supposed to be discussion on the Season 2 finale, not the upcoming seasons.  So yeah ... it was very good, a wee bit rushed maybe, but still very good.

MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW.

Best parts:
- Peter Dinklage's performance (yes, again)
- Tywin's horse taking a shit in the throne room (yes, that happened in the book!)
- The Jaime and Brienne show, of course!  Looking forward to more of that next year.
- Theon.  Everything Alfie Allen does.  Yeah, Dinklage is amazing, but he already won an Emmy for the show - give it to Alfie this year!  (Or maybe wait a couple more to give him one ... it rhymes with meek...)
- Jaqen H'ghar's final scene.  I was worried they weren't gonna go full-Faceless Man, but they did and I'm ecstatic (though disappointed we won't be seeing more of Tom Wlaschiha in the role).
- Maester Luwin's death scene.  Manly tears were shed.  Sadder even than Ned Stark's death, which honestly was more shocking than sad.
- Dany's vision of the Red Keep, burned and broken by dragonfire, in the middle of winter with snow all around.  Sure, they got rid of the book prophecies, but HOLY SHIT this one was pretty awesome.
- Seeing Khal Drogo again.
- The Fist of the First Men!  The White Walkers look so much better than they did in the fleeting glimpses we've seen - they're actually white!  And they look significantly different than the wights (zombies), which is quite good.  And their crystal weapons are fucking sweet.

Bad parts:
- The House of the Undying.  So much wasted potential - it's nothing remotely like the books, and all the possibly-important prophecy is gone, replaced by vague new visions (awesome though the Red Keep one was).  And the ending - what, was Pyat Pree the only Warlock of Qarth?  Where were the Undying Ones?  The giant heart beating at the center of the table?  DID PYAT PREE REALLY FORGET THAT DRAGONS BREATHE FUCKING FIRE?!
- Qarth in general, though this is me bitching about the whole season and not the finale.  And as much as I don't give a shit about Xaro, well ... guess he's not coming to visit Dany in Mereen anymore, now is he?
- Jon vs. the Halfhand.  First, no Ghost = Goddammit.  Second, my favorite Qhorin Halfhand line was cut completely - "Is your sword sharp, Jon Snow?"  This also means that a lot of my friends who haven't read the books think Jon betrayed and killed him out of anger, not that Qhorin allowed Jon to kill him so Jon would be able to infiltrate the wildlings and spy for the Night's Watch (since they'd never believe a seasoned ranger like Qhorin would turn).
- Did Robb get married to a foreigner using the vows of the Seven?  He's a Northerner, so he should worship the Old Gods, and she's a foreigner, so she shouldn't give a shit about either.
- Robb/Talisa in general.  Very poorly handled compared to the book, wherein he sleeps with Jeyne out of grief due to the news of Bran and Rickon, and marries her out of honor because he took her maidenhead.  In the show, he's a horny teenager who decides "Nah, I don't need to keep my promise to Walder Frey, I'll just marry you instead.  What's the worst that could happen?"
- No Reek.  It worked out in the end, but still, Dagmer knocking out Theon wasn't nearly as WTF as when it was Reek-who-turned-out-not-to-be-Reek.
- Ros/Varys.  I didn't hate the scene, and it does a good job of setting up Varys to be even more manipulative and cloak-and-dagger than we already know, but it's unnecessary overall and the screentime could/should have gone toward more important things, like Jon/Qhorin.
- Littlefinger making an explicit offer to take Sansa home.  Show-Littlefinger is far dumber than book-Littlefinger.  And where was Ser Dontos, the knight-turned-fool?!  He's the one that should have told Sansa he'd get her home.

END SPOILERS.

So I know it seems like I'm just bitching about the episode, but I really did like it a lot.  Not quite as good as "Blackwater," but otherwise possibly the best episode of the remainder of the season.

TRON: Uprising premieres tonight. If you haven't you should check out the free ep they uploaded. I'm still not entirely convinced you can completely connect the original '82 film to its 2010 sequel. But the 2010 TRON grid is pretty interesting by itself. I was impressed with the free ep.

Tron:U is a bit of fun. reminds me too much of Batman Beyond, though.

The season premiere of Futurama.

Meh.  Much like the last season (or seasons, if you count the 2010 and 2011 runs as distinct seasons).  Both episodes had their moments, but overall left me with a feeling of "Damn, it didn't get better."

I enjoyed the first episode quite a bit. Yes, I agree that connecting the two movies is a bit hard and this seems to be going at making it even more difficult...

Everyone's legs are too long, and I was surprised at the innuendo, such that it was.

Batman Beyond successfully made someone else Batman... who else can claim that?

I also watched that episode. I had a hard time with the new actors playing old characters. Scotty was too much of a goofy impersonation of a Scott (was trying too hard) and Kirk wasn't trying hard enough. And where did they get that faker to play old Sulu?!? Puh-leeze...

However, It was well written and had good production values.

Yeah the new actors are what prevented me from watching any of their episodes before. I always felt if you love the TOS era than create your own ship to have adventures on. As the Bourne Legacy posters say: "There was never just one."

But once I pushed past that and accepted it on its terms it was good stuff. Can't vouch for any of their other episodes though...

The DVDs have been sitting there for 18months doing nothing so we thought the time was right to go back to Galactica.

Saw the pilot tonight and you know I wish they occasionally had Boxey in it as a revisiting minor character. It would have been interesting to have him turn up once a year almost as a background detail and maybe play a part in the final episode.

He could start off as this sweet little orphan and get more and more hardened by circumstance each time we saw him.

I read Yesterday that they are planning to recast New Voyages / Phase II with at least one new professional actor, Taking over the Role of Kirk.

http://trekmovie.com/2012/06/20/breaking-star-trek-phase-ii-fan-series-recasts-their-kirk-exclusive-first-look-details/

All in all the show is good fun and well made. the Only thing that ever bothered me was that they killed of Chekov...and then he's there on the bridge in the very next episode.

They've also done quite well in bringing aboard original series actors and writers.

RE: galactica - that's what I was hoping from Boxey, shame they ditched the character a few episodes in. I never noticed but it's implied that the guy at the start is his Dad - I think there was a photo on the desk of them together.

Just watched the season finale of [Avatar but not allowed to call it Avatar because of James Cameron ] Legend of Korra.

Had a lot of fun with this show. I was never a big fan of the original series, the new version ties in nicely but follows it's own story. There is a new avatar [set about 70 years later], a girl named Korra.

The animation and acting is great and there's a lot of action to keep things moving along.

Also been watching some Tron:U - I like the style of the show but it really feels like it's dragging its feet, like Beck will never quite be ready to be the new Tron, he'll be forever training and the bad guys will always get away to fight another day.

Masada (1981)

A four part epic for television, with Peter O'Toole in a great role.  Great acting, very well written and produced.

In 70 AD, shortly after the destruction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem, 900 Jewish zealots hold out against a 5000 man Roman legion on the mountaintop fortress of Masada.

As you may have noticed I have been rewatching NuGalactica and perhaps to address some of the concerns ChainsawAsh has about Game Of Thrones, if the show continues to be a hit all the way through to when the books are done and adapted it might be possible to either do a theatrical film or a television mini-series that covers some of the material that's missing from the books and maybe even flashback to the War Of The Usurper which book fans tell me was a major missing part of the dreamquest in The House Of The Undying.

I made the decision to watch Razor in it's chronological placement and it fits well and possibly gives a new insight into Hera's 'spiritual' origin (I shall watch The Plan after Ellen has awoken as it doesn't really fit as a closing appendix to the show).

Having a special which deals with the precursors of the main body of the story can work if the details are worked out before and that seems to be the case in the Game Of Thrones universe.

The Plan. Wow. What a crock of crap. I love the Attack on the Colonies part, the rest is retcon garbage.

That's how it plays if you see it last but believe me if you stick it right after Ellen wakes up, it fits better with the tone of the season and is consistent with what happens around it.

It also reminds you how they got where they end up.

I'm Batman

Watched the whole first season of suits to play catch up. I like it. I like it a lot.

Also started re-watching Titus with a friend who's never seen it. Great show that!

The Newsroom - They managed to make a really compelling show out of something I find incredibly boring - the evening news.

It was a clip-show.  And clip-shows suck.

Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.

Don't know how I missed 'Back on Topps' the first time around.  For those who collected baseball cards in their youth, well there many in jokes (a whole episode about Steve Balboni!) but the show is more about their brand of humor then the business model.

"V: The Final Battle"

What happened to the fantastic allegory of the original? It starts off not that bad, but quickly turned into a mess.  The romance between the two main resistance characters just seemed forced and out of the blue. Just a bunch of low budget shock/horror ploys, and weak action scenes.
