I'm having some trouble finding a good spot to download the Purist version... can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Considering how many players are available that can play both NTSC and PAL discs, I was curious if anyone has watched both region versions, and if the better resolution on PAL really stands out. ANYONE? :)

If I were to slow the video playback on the PAL version to 24p(23.9....), and then replace the audio with the NTSC version audio so it matched up, technically speaking i should have the best version of Revisited possible.

A lot of Bluray players play a variety of video files now, and output at 24p.

In this setup, would it be worth it to try this, or would the results be negligible? Keep in mind, nothing would be re-encoded from what Adywan originally released.

Preferred Saga:
1/2: Hal9000
3: L8wrtr
4/5: Adywan
6-9: Hal9000

Your SW:R website still rocks too Drew.....I love that we have that resource for people to inform themselves (as you well know, not everyone is on FB)

(oh and your 3rd unit patch will be going out in the mail today)

Nice, the Adywan edits are featured in a new Cracked article

http://www.cracked.com/article_19906_6-pieces-fan-art-that-are-better-than-original.html

I mentioned this in the ESB:R thread but it seems more appropriate here... does anyone else find it funny that the article bashes Lucas for making ewoks blink, and completely ignores Ady's version of the cantina scene, not to mention Yoda's blinks for ESB:R?

There are several differnces between these 2 things:

Many of the aliens in the cantina, and Yoda, have inset eyes similar to ours that look like they would need to be moistened, therefore the blinks. Ewok eyes are very external and do not look like they would need blinking to moisten them....very similar to fly eyes (Kinda like the Bith in the cantina...and if I'm not mistaken, Ady didn't make them blink either).

Ady did not CHANGE their eyes, he only added blinks to the eyes they already had.....whereas Lucas changed the ewok eyes completely.

When Ady changes something he does so consistantly, whereas the ewoks (actually only wicket) blink in only one or 2 closeup shots (not to mention the eyes are totally different in these shots as well thus creating ANOTHER continuity error.

Ewoks are ONE species.....so if they don't blink its not that hard to believe...but to say that in a whole bar room full of different alines not one of them blinks its eyes....is a bit weird.

As much as we complain about ewoks, I don't think I ever heard anyone say that they didn't like the design of their eyes (I HAD heard complaints about seeing actors eyes/faces through the costume eyes...but this is an easy fix without the need to completely change the style of eye, and is another matter entirely). In fact, as cutesy and annoying as the ewoks are...I always thought their eyes just a little creepy and cool looking. Just alien enough to keep them from being full on teady bears.

Actually, the baby ewok shown during C-3PO's storytime blinked, and I thought that was very well done. It always looked like a puppet to me before that.

Either way, Ady was the first to add blinks and that was always my favorite thing about ANH:R above everything else he added. I did not mind at all that Lucas did blinks for Wicket and the baby, I just wish he had done some for the others as well.

I just think it is amusing that when Ady does it, he gets praised, but Lucas gets hate automatically because people seemed to have made that a default reaction to his changes, good or bad.

nope.....my point was...Ady does it well and with consistancy, Lucas just messes everything up and adds new continuity errors.

I had also suggested that people were more critical of the rubber masks in ANH that the ewoks in ROTJ, therefore it makes more sense to animate something that looks a bit fake than something that was more or less fine to begin with.

My first point was that the article went out of it's way to not acknowledge Ady's blinks at all, while mentioning the ewok change to bash Lucas with. They could have at least compared the quality of the blinks, as you've just done, but for anyone who only first discovers ANH:R BECAUSE of the article may assume that blinks = bad change, only to download Ady's edit and realize he also adds blinks. Many people won't concern themselves with the quality, but with the fact that the blinks exist at all, because I've rarely heard anyone praise the ewok blinks, and rarely heard anyone disapprove Ady's added blinks.

I don't have a problem with replacing the badly positioned, unblinking stuffed toy eyes of the Ewoks (indeed I suggested fan-editors do something like this long before Lucas attempted it).

My beef comes from his piecemeal approach to the endeavor (frequently leaving the old costume screw up in and replacing only a few shots with very little logical method to the placement of the new effect) AND naturally not issuing the original cut of the film, warts and all so we can appreciate ROTJ (1983) for what it is, a film made in haste nearly three decades ago.

Yeah, it would be so much better if Lucas and his CGI employees would have the attention to detail that Ady has, but it just isn't meant to be.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lucas released the unaltered trilogy YEARS from now as yet another way to make money, but I would never say it was guaranteed. Till then I'm satisfied with Harmy's versions.

After reading some of the ideas for ROTJ:R and the Epic Space Battle above all, I'm wondering if Ady will make any further enhancements to his already impressive Battle of Yavin scene.  And looking at some of the different DS angles on the ESB/ROTJ Wishlist Thread, I'd love to see DS perspectives like that on ANHR:SE or would that be too Prequel-ish?

I remember thoughts going round that Vader should report to the Emperor at the end at Coruscant or something.  Wouldn't it be cool if there was a tease of the Executor just with Vader's Tie Fighter docking with it or something.  Could probably use the soon to become omitted footage from ESB:R you know, the Shuttle docking scene that was unnecessary in the first place but replace that with his Fighter instead.  And perhaps a tease of Vader's chamber just giving that nod that he's going to contact his master.  Just an idea.  :)

And I wonder if somebody out there could tease the Imperial March theme with snippets during such a scene that is, if the Imperial March doesn't get used earlier in the film.  Something like what Hans Zimmer did with Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy bringing out the Official theme in the Dark Knight Rises.  Just thinking this so that when Ady eventually revisits the PT he could use that instead of Uncle George already giving that theme away.  Just makes the Sage more interesting that way if you ask me.

I could have sworn Adywan did something like this at some point. It was the shot from the end of ANH with Vader's TIE flying off into the distance, with the Executor in the background.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Oh really?  I read something along those lines but never really took much notice.  I just downloaded the DL version of the movie yesterday.  As soon as I've burned it to disc I'll check it out.  Cheers for that. :)

Ah just as I thought, as I'm sure Adywan would have mentioned it in his Info Clip Version anyway. ;)

I thought it might have been part of a trailer, or maybe a teaser clip. It was definitely not part of SW-Revisited.

my fuzzy memory is nagging at me that it HAD been in a trailer or preview clip, but that ultimately Ady decided not to use it since it made little sense that the Executor would have stood by doing nothing while the DS was being attacked.
