As a follow up to my earlier comment, I've been recently been rewatching NuGalactica and I noticed on the CIC they have these little tower consoles.

They are very simple (basically a metal frame with a few lights etc) but they are effective as background detail.

Just one object of a similarly simple design photographed from different angles could be put in the empty areas which served as seating in the briefing scene and with the lowered map circles and you would have a very effective war room.

Especially with staff and the holotable working away.
