There's no question that Trek needs a hiatus. They translated the success of Next Generation to mean that people can't get enough Trek so they deluged us with God only knows how many different series. And they kicked the movies into high gear. And they burned out the franchise. Make it go away for about 5-10 years. Do nothing except books for a while. When it comes back after fans have had the time to cool off, it will likely be welcomed back with open arms. Just don't overdo it again.
