Hot Rod: Criterion is a film preservation company that has managed to pull films out of the vaults over the years, restored the print, and released them to the public. They're more expensive than studio releases, but (though I haven't seen one yet) the DVDs are supposed to have superior quality over standard DVDs. Criterion's released many of Kurosawa's and Hitchcock's films, among others. (Okay, I take that back, I did see the Criterion version of Rebecca, now that I think about it).
