Thanks for the update -1.  Have been wondering about this lately.  Really looking forward to seeing the results.

some more details..

--------------------------

1 - sound for a few reels is mono,

so we'll be reconstructing what we can of that.

stereo version should be fine... also the spanish

sound is coming along well too.

2 - most of star wars is done, with a few more reels to

go. because its in good shape, the color fixes are not

that hard, and quicker to do.. there is minimal dust and

dirt cleanup going on.. but it won't take too long

i've seen rough previews of most of the  reels,

and even those look amazing,  and the tests on cleaned up

   versions look even better.

3 - there probably won't be a 2nd version (the english red reels),

[if there is, it will be an archive version done much later.]

because the quality is not that good. however, there are

scenes with less grain, that may be incoporated with the better print.

4 - empire strikes back will be done next, but at much slower pace.

we found some film restoration material that cleans the film so

before it is transferred it removes a lot of the damage and dirt.

so we will rescan some of the troublesome parts again to save

time from doing it digitally. the color correction is mostly done,

its the cleanup and restoration that's going to take quite awhile.

5 - there's some early leads on return of the jedi also,

but thats a LONG way off.

we should be on track for release this year barring

any surprises. stay tuned.

Exciting news about possible Return Of The Jedi leads as well, thanks again -1!

You say (“sound for a few reels is mono”)

Do you mean it is the mono mix? And if so is that being saved, for other projects.

Again with the redundancy, but this is awesome and you are surely doing the Lord's work.

the stuff we are using on parts of the

film is called filmguard..

http://www.film-tech.com/products/filmguard.php

there are some issues people have with it,

but for short term, it is fine.

since it cleans the image, the optical track

gets improved also!

i'll post some examples,

star wars related and other ones. maybe some

images too.
