I don't know how it could be done but an alternate take could be to kill Panaka in the Coruscant battle (so he never sees Ric's handsome face again) and have Ric live and marry Padme. That would make Ralph Brown happy, keep the cries of "You killed the only handsome character" at bay and what's more move him from the A list to the 1 list characters.
